How do you organize/ store jewelry?

I have a bunch of "cheap" jewelry, necklaces of various lenghts, earrings, bracelettes and such. How do you store or organize these.

I like to be able to "see" what my choices are without too much digging. I don't necessarily want to have it on display and I really only have a bathroom vanity drawer that I could spare for such storage.

It is currently in a jewelry box that is about 12 inches high or so, some hang on the side behind doors. I am thinking of getting rid of the surface that it sits on, so am wondering about other options.

Cheap or not, I would NOT store jewelry in the bathroom... too much humidity.

I use one of these. But I am very limited on space.

If I had the room, I'd get one of those jewelry cabinets.

As I matter of fact I do wear jewelry differently at my 2 homes! I can't stand cold metal touching me so I don't wear necklaces in the winter (from Nov to about March) at my regular home. And I wear one particular pair of earring almost all winter because they dangle but not long enough to touch my skin. Some of the longer ones end up touching my neck from my scarves & bulky coat so I avoid those. It's crazy but cold metal just sends a chill right through me and makes me feel colder. Since it's warmer in HHI, I do wear necklaces & earrings and even bracelets. I usually bring a few down with me so that I can have some variety. One necklace at a time, if it's bold than the earrings are smaller. One bracelet at a time and it depends on my sleeve length. In both places, I occasionally wear rings when I remember them. Your comments about gold & blue reminds me that I have an 18k gold ring with a lapis lazuli stone. I should dig that out and start wearing it again.

It all depends upon what you want. If it is just 'stuff', I'd get rid of it. If it's something you love or need, keep it. This is kind of rambling, but it's some general thoughts I have. One thing I'd look at is furniture. Are you moving stuff around and keeping it because you 'might' want it in the future? Or is it stuff you currently use? For instance, we have a 1950's "Dixie" brand bedroom set with double bed, dresser, nightstand, and mirror that dh bought at auction several years ago before he married me. It's a well built sturdy set of furniture and we hate to get rid of it, but it is just taking up space in our lives. We don't currently have a need for it. It would be great in guest bedroom, but we don't have a guest bedroom. It'd be great for the kids 10 years down the road when they get an apartment, but for right now it is 'stuff' and just taking up space. Another thing to consider is the scale of what you own. When I was starting out on my own several years back, I lived in in apartment. I was always amazed at the furniture people had in their apartment like huge overstuffed couches and big chairs and tables. It wasn't to scale for the size and the rooms always felt crowded. Are there a few things you could trade out or downsize? For instance, do you need a couch and a loveseat? Could you get rid of one or the other? Or you replace the couch with a loveseat and the loveseat with a comfortable chair? Do you need a coffee tables and end tables or are they just more horizontal places to put things? I see a lot of sideboards, hutches and cedar chests in people's homes. To me, they are space wasters and time killers because they have to be cleaned and don't offer much in return. That's my opinion only. If they adding value to the person who owns them, then great, but my impression usually is that someone had a space to fill so they filled it. I think it all comes down to what is a priority for you. Is the furniture, books, collections, etc., still important to you? Or do you think you could let go of some of it to free up time and space?

You could actually do a couple different things. You could have one rod and use hangers. You would have to fold them a bit to fit on the hanger and not drag on the floor, but that's usually how they come from the cleaners. For heavy cloths, use two hangers together for added strength. You could also hang multiple rods at slightly different heights and depths. If you have a walk in closet this works great, but will still work with a reach in. Hang the highest rod the farthest back, then one a bit lower and closer and even a third lower and closer than the second. Then you can hang the cloths right on the rod instead of on a hanger. I like the rod because of it's larger diameter it doesn't leave creases in the cloths. You can also overlap them on these rods. For optimum use of space, you'd need to use multiple rods and overlap. Is that totally confusing?!

Get an ornamental screw-hook, screw it into the pantry ceiling, hang a bag on it that holds the light bulbs. Or a couple of bags, with different kinds sorted in each bag That's IF the ceiling is high enough that you won't bang the bags with your head while travelling below. In which case ... the screw goes into a window frame? ole joyful

Earings-I use a craft bead organizer.It has small compartments and I probably place 2 pair in each compartment. Necklaces-I hung a bulletin board in my closet and hang them from push pins.

For rings and earrings, I use old fashioned ice cube trays.

I put my sets (necklace + earrings) of everyday jewellery in the medicine cups that come free with liquid medicines. I then store them in a drawer. That way i can see what's available and I can easily pick the entire set. I have plenty of these medicine cups with my kids' medicines, so this was one way of recycling them :)

For "cheap" or costume jewelery I use clear covered bead/craft/fishing tackle boxes for earrings. You can put usually 2 pair per compartment. I have mine organized loosely by color.

Bracelets are in small see-through boxes with drawers. Necklaces are hung on a closet wall on a multi-hook clothes rack.

The good stuff is in boxes lines with silver protective lining that have clear covers so I can see what's in them. I bought them online.

Pinterest has a ton of cheap do it yourself jewelry storage ideas (like using a paper towel holder for bangles) but personally I still prefer the wall mount jewelry boxes or the ones that hang on the back of the door. It swings open like a door and has tons of places to store different items. Then closed it has a mirror for getting dressed. Perfect addition to any closet. Size is usually 36" high x 18" wide and 3" deep, but they have smaller ones too. HSN, QVC and a few local dept stores carry them.

I use a window screen hung by cup hooks inside my closet for earrings (pierced) and I can easily see everything. The clip ones I use the plastic craft bead boxes as well.
Necklaces I hang in the closet from large cup hooks. Of course I also use several jewelry boxes.

I use the same clear plastic pockets that marit8a uses. I really like it.

I especially like that it hangs in the closet with my clothes and doesn't need dresser-top space.

Mine has different sizes of pockets, which is really handy. Nothing gets tangled, and I can see everything.

IO have a plastic organizer bag thingy,I also have a jewelry cabinet,It does help theyre not too high in price.

I have a walk in closet that has one long blank wall, no shelving or anything. I bought the strips of wood with hooks on them and hang my necklaces on it. I hang them by color and can get several on one hook. I have a lot costume jewelry. I have some better pieces stored in the hanger with pockets shown in the picture of another reply. I put a t shirt over it and then a long sleeved man's shirt over the t shirt to hide it. I have earrings on a stand that sits on my bathroom vanity and rings in a drawer in the bedroom.

How do you organize/ store jewelry?
