Will there be a tv on this wall? can you tell us the function and layout that you envision?

Alexa-Thank you for your response. I did discuss this with the cabinet maker we used for our bathroom vanities, but he is not creative. Our contractor told me he would "draw something up", but I trust the advice on this forum before all others.

pps7- thank you so much for reaching out. I really want use the bookcases to warm up the space. We added a dormer to the backside of the house and ended up with a much larger bedroom than we had envisioned. I will attach a link of something I like if that helps. We generally do not watch TV in our bedroom, but I am open to space on the bookcase for one as I do have space for a sitting area. It's the window. It is so out of balance.

I wanted bookcases in our library but wasn't sure how to make it work, until I found an inspiration picture which solved the issue around the fireplace, but I still had more wall space. For work I would travel to give presentations, and one trip, I ended up at the University Club in DC where they had a wonderful library. Of course it had extremely high ceilings, but what I really liked was that, rather than take the book cases to the ceiling, they took them up so high and then had painted wall above to display paintings and objects. I loved it and it solved the issue for me. So I have both bookcases to the ceiling and then lower bookcases with display above.

On the other wall, I wanted the sofa nested between the bookshelves which could be used as end tables as well. But with the tall ceiling, it needed more, so I created the bridge across the top for display

So for your wall, I can see using a combination of those ideas to fill the space....build in the window seat, but build a bridge above. Create full size bookcases (obviously angled down the wall on the right) on either side of the window seat...keeping them the same width. Then for the rest of the wall, complete it with book cases but make them shorter so you have room for display and art work above. I think it would be an absolutely fabulous addition to your room.

Oakleyok- I know what you mean about a straight wall of bookcases and cabinets and I think Annie came to the rescue with her idea.

Oh Annie! What a relief. I was really starting to stress about that wall! I knew there was a way to make it work...I just could not see it! Thank you so much for the visual and added explanation.

I was also thinking along the lines of Annie. In order to create a more symmetric space why not block off 6' for art or a sette to the left. it would be the same distance from the left wall as the window is from the right. you can create a bridge over the space similar to Annie's second picture. I would put a settee with art over it. Love the sconces too.

sparklebread, get yourself some quadrille paper (with the little squares on it) and sketch it out to scale....it will make a huge difference as what you are looking for is massing, scale and balance and you need a scale drawing to see it.

Ohhh! It just hit me- NOW I have inspiration for the 25' long room that has tormented me for the last 8 years! This is how home renovation projects take on a life of their own.

Annie's room is perfect inspiration.

BUT..as far as your sitting area goes, do you plan on spending time sitting there? My only concern is if you do then the bench won't be comfy.

Oak- Good thought. No, we won't sit there for any length of time. It is pre-existing and and not comfortable, just as you think. I did not have the foresight to have it removed so I am just going to work around it.

Bookcase install began yesterday and thought I would post a pic for you all to see. I was thinking they would go straight to ceiling, but happy nonetheless.

Don't worry, won't be leaving the pinned curtains-just privacy for now.

That looks really nice. I have a question though. Do the bookcases have a back to them painted green, or is that the wall behind? Just curious because I am looking at doing something like that and I wasn't sure which way to go.
