Cushions for mudroom benches - one or several?

Our mudroom is almost finished; the built-in benches/cubbies have just been installed. I want to put cushions on the benches, and I am wondering whether to put three separate cushions (large space under window, two cubbies) or one fitted cushion that will cover the three spaces. Here are some photos; the cushion fabric I am considering is the black/cream stripe. The wall is BM Sweet Caroline.

I think I would do separate ones. It might be sortof bulky trying to fit the cushions around the cubby walls.

i've been wondering about cushions for our mudroom as well. at first i thought i would have a single cushion made up but obviously the configuration is difficult. not only do you have to allow for the separation between cubbies, you also have to be able to remove the cover for washing.

i think the best solution for this set up would be individual cushions ...or none at all. GL!

Funny!! I was just admiring that pic on Houzz last night. I think I am going to eliminate the open shelving on the left side. That will save us nearly $600 and can be added later if we need it. The base cabinet on the right will be a 3 drawer stack. 2 deep bottom drawers perfect for the kids hats/mittens. And I will still have the open shelving on the top. I want the bottom underneath the bench to be open, because we are the type of family to just kick our shoes off, I just don't see the kids actually putting their shoes in a drawer. (Myself either ;-) Also considering removing the dividers, for the reasons you mentioned. I received another estimate today from another custom cabinet maker, and they were within about $700 for the entire mudroom. So I'm believing now, that the original estimate was not out of line. Thanks for your help!

Bedelia and Bestyears...thanks for the ideas. My space is somewhat limited, that's why a built-in cubbie wouldn't be appropriate. There's just two of us, as well, so we only need, say, a two-seater bench and that would be about right size-wise for the available space...maybe 36 inches in length, I suppose. The more I think about this, the more I lean toward the simpler idea of just a bench, not the hall tree with the coat rack included. I think it would be less "imposing" in the space available. I'll try to remember to follow-up with a picture of whatever we end up with from the cabinet maker.

nidnay - That is another good idea! A partially closed cabinet. As I thought about it more, I realized that if I was doing formal entertaining then I'd clean out the lockers anyway and put the coats and shoes where they actually belong, so maybe having doors on the lockers really isn't necessary at all. herbflavor - Oh he's going to be very busy very soon! lol, though this will have to wait until the rest of the kitchen is done because my fridge is currently in this spot. I have to figure it out before I can finalize the island plan though. I'm really liking your freestanding chair/bench idea and lockers on the door side wall, because I could stack them and put two wide lower ones for the kids and two high ones for the grownups and get that bench out of the way if we had some kind of gathering where we didn't want congestion there. Maybe some high wall storage on the 4' wall for other gear that seems to end up on my kitchen floors periodically like soccer and swim bags, or my husbands bow because if he's going to practice with it, it MUST be kept by the back door. {insert eye-roll}

In hindsight the bench top would have been better done in a stained wood. I am having the same problem with a white painted desktop that I thought would be ok because I am careful and the only one using it, but the front edge is not wearing well. I will probably have the whole top replaced in the near future and go with stained wood or quartzite/quartz. For you, I would have suggested custom cushions, but you seem to be using it more as a shelf than a bench.

Yes, I'd do individual cushions, too. I love the color on the wall. I'm looking for a light green for my dd's room and this might be just right.

lafonda_ranch, I love the color, too. It looks washed out in my photos, at least on my monitor, but it looks great on the walls. Our bedroom has been painted BM Stolen Moments (the next lighter shade on the strip with Sweet Caroline) for several years, and it's wonderful to live with - a clear, soft green with no bad undertones.

I think individual cushions would be best. I love your room. Being that this is the mud room, I would think that the most important thing would be cushions that have covers that can come off for washing.
