Wow...the countertop makeover is way cool. I made a note of the product. Much nicer than 70's Denny's orange (do you have Denny's back there? ). Looks great with the backsplash.

(Looking at all the bad drywall seams and carpy ceiling texture in my house...it's obvious where I got bored/tired, lol.)

Looks great and if you keep having a problem with the chipping try the rustoleum counter top finish it is messy but so far very durable had it a year and no chipping. Probably not worth the effort though if you selling soon.

What fun! It all seems to be coming together so nicely. That's my kind of project as I'm better at those kind of things than cooking.

great job, the new counters are so soothing and pretty!

Wow, a lot of work. But it looks great. Good choice of colors, too.

Enjoy

Great job Annie!

Is the plan still to build on the farm?

Sometime ago I was in the Sub Zero/Wolf showroom. I asked the sales guy about how durable was one of their monster refrigerators, he laughed, " In general, they last forever, because people who buy them never cook"

While I don't think your kitchen will be on the cover of Architectural Record anytime soon, it feels very comforting, friendly and you are inspired to do some good cooking in it.

Now, it will be a perfect kitchen if only you have a sous vide cooker on the counter. LOL!

I for one, with the 40 year old kitchen, thinks yours looks great! You guys did a great job "BRAVO"!
Nope, nothing will taste any better but if it sells better, what the heck?

Good job,

Red

WOW, Annie! Who says you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Good choices.

jude

Nice face lift, Annie! I, for one, will miss your orange counter tops. They make me smile every time you post a picture. Not that I'd ever want them in MY house!

Annie, you don't give yourself enough credit. The colors really coordinate very well, and that cabinet looks like it has always been there. Looks very good!

Wow, I'm impressed. You did a great job Annie.

~Ann

Great job!! I've been in your kitchen, this is a wonderful improvement.

Nancy

It looks great, Annie. Doesn't this accomplishment feel good? We had people do the work for us when we remodeled our kitchen here, but we're slowly working on our kitchen up in Tahlequah ourselves. I know which kitchen I'll be more proud of when we're done.

I never knew countertops could be painted. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to look into that for the Tahlequah house.

Great job, Annie.

Sally

Very nice, but so not "you". Your old kitchen was my favorite of all. I love the way it (and you) kind of thumbed your nose at all that is new and trendy. Nevertheless, the kitchen will be much more appealing to a buyer, so good for you and Elery.

I hope you have orange formica in the new house.

Oooh, I really like the backsplash, and what an improvement the paint makes on the countertops! And great that you were able to do this yourselves. We had a kitchen remodel done 2 years ago and it was so disruptive. Must be much nicer to do it at your own pace.

Bravo! Bravo! What an accomplishment. I'm particularly impressed with your backsplash and floor. I had to learn how to cut tile for a bathroom project and developed hives -- hated it.
We recently had a previous owner over to pick up some paperwork. As she stood in our kitchen and looked around, she became teary ... she had such fond memories and nothing had since she lived here about 50 years ago:)

Pat yourself on the back. I'm applauding.

Cathy in SWPA

Thank you, everyone! Cathy, I should have had you come up and do it, this drives me crazy.

beachlily, thank you very much. It's not as cool and soothing as yours, but I'm relatively happy, things blended in better than I had anticipated.

jude, thank you. It was definitely a sow's ear before, LOL. The real problem wasn't even appearance, it was just so darned inconvenient, especially with that built in table, so it couldn't be moved. It was like there was a path that wove through the kitchen and only one person fit on that path at a time.

dedtired, if I weren't going to try to sell the place, I'd probably have left the counters. That stuff was bomb proof, I swear. (grin)

FOAS, I'll try hard to find a piece of the orange stuff and use it just to stage my pictures. Just for you. Uh, never mind, probably not. I always HATED those blasted orange counter tops. I actually kind of like the new paint, I just wish I didn't have to be so darned careful with it.

CL, I looked at the Rustoleum stuff and it was more expensive and I'm cheap, so I bought the Gianni. I probably should have gone for the most expensive stuff.

Chase, the plan is still to build on the farm, hopefully in the spring. We'll see, I have a feeling this house won't sell quickly, it feels like the whole darned town of White Cloud is for sale. (sigh)

dcarch, no sous vide on the counter. I'm trying to get stuff OFF the counter! For some reason people like to see empty counters instead of all my "stuff", go figure.....

Annie

Annie, that looks damn good! I have been in your kitchen and experienced the "path" around that built in table!

Hope the place sells soon, I am sure it will with the improvements you have made.

I, for one, DO NOT wish you any orange formica in your new place! LOL

Linda

After all that work you may not want to sell.
I think you have done a great job.....
Isn't it a satisfied feelling when you do a
remodeling job yourself. Pat yourself on the back!!

Shirl

Wow, Annie! That sure doesn't look like a budget kitchen. You did a really great job.

Good job, Annie! It looks marvelous!

Brad AKA Moonwolf

Wow, Annie, what a vast improvement... you keep doing things like that and you won't want to move :o)

I really like the colours, and I think the wall colour is just right, not too dark but enough to be a colour and not off white :-)
I'm impressed with the great job you've done on the counter tops, mixing the colours carefully so it looks like it's meant to be and not just podged it on any old how (which would be tempting to me :-) ). Looks really good!

Colleen, it's at least better than the bedroom we just did upstairs, it looks kind of like butterscotch pudding and was supposed to just be a medium tan kind of color. I'm not good at determining what color it will be on the wall, it's never what I think it will be.

As for the counter, I really did just "podge" it on with the sponge any old way. I liked it better lighter than darker, so I sponged on more of the light stuff. I was shocked that it actually looks OK, LOL.

Brad, thank you, I appreciate that.

Bobby and Shirl, I definitely still want to move, there is no place on earth that I want to be, no matter how nice the house, except the farm. If it were only the house that mattered, I'd have stayed in Elery's house instead of selling it. Yes, I definitely still want to move.

Madonna, isn't it amazing what a little paint and about a week's worth of work will do?

Linda, so when are you going to come and visit, just to see the new kitchen in person? Or are you waiting until we build at the farm and see my really NEW "new" kitchen? Heck, I might have to have another Michigan Run when that happens!

Annie

If it's important (as in, we will be living with it for a few years :-) ) we do sample pots on all four walls as the colour is different looking depending on the angle of the light. One colour we looked at for the walls, once we got the sample on it looked more like a colour the council would choose for a public toilet. :-P I think we had about seven or eight different squares on the walls before we hit on one :-)

Wow! Is all I can say. Ok, I'll say more. I love that you're creating your combined nests into one, in your time, and in your ways. You are learning more than grouting and tiling. You're really good at it though, I have to say. I've seen some not so good jobs and that's dang good. Does it make you want to stay? I used to feel that way. I'd get my home just like I like it, but when it came time to move, I'd get it all spic and span, and whammo, I'd wish I wasn't leaving. So I learned to spiff it up a little sooner. Your new digs are gonna be all you, but this time, the collective you. How cool will that be?

Annie, kitchen looks GREAT! I am impressed! We are not fixer upper people so I'm always in awe of those who do projects like this on their own.

Tracey

Wow! What a great job! I also appreciate the hard work and determination DIYers have because I cant fix a thing. The kitchen is beautiful!
