So how embarrassing was the doctor appt? I've had them off and on since having Bradley and considered going to the doc but didn't for the same reason as you. Knock on wood, I haven't had any trouble for a while, but I dread a flare-up.

My Mom and my Best Friend had the surgery. Both claim that the Hemorrhoids returned.

There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable. Ask the Doctor how you prevent them from coming back.

My DSis went through that a few months ago. She suffered with hemorroids forever before finally admitting it to a doctor. The procedure went smoothly and she had only a little discomfort for a couple of days.

Now she swears by drinking lots of water and eating bran flakes everyday. And I have to admit that bran flakes have made a huge (and comfortable) change in my daily habits. I always buy Honeynut Bran flakes and they are delicious!

I guess you got the worst part over. Just know you are not the only one with that problem, and they've seen many. Glad you will feel better soon with no moe flareups.

Yeah, I know they've seen many butts, but not mine. Well, now they have. When it comes to the "backdoor" I don't like to let anyone or anything in...LOL!!

For anyone having this problem I would say go now rather than later because I believe there's a less involved procedure if you do it early. Instead of a few days of discomfort, it will be a few weeks of recovery. A friend of mine waited too long and had the more involved surgery and I was shocked by how long she was out of work and she had a desk job (I'm not sure it matters in this case whether you're moving or sitting at work with this kind of problem).

Don't worry, doctors and nurses know that people are embarrassed. You are not alone there and they will try and help you feel at ease.

Just think of how much better you are going to feel once it is over.

Is there some reason they didn't try the newer laser treatment first? It is done in a doctor's office.

I had painful hemorrhoids only once. I couldn't even go to work. I would have welcomed surgery, anything for relief. I took a lot of hot baths and they healed up and receeded. If it ever happens again, I'll head straight to the dOctor. Good luck, and let us know when it's over. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

As my doctor once told me...you leave your dignigty at the door of the hospital, they've seen it all! Good luck...and I don't blame you for being embarrassed....I'm the same way, but I have never had hemorroids, knock on wood. LOL.....

Every time I've had a colonoscopy the Dr. tells me he removed any hems that he found and I didn't even realize that I HAD any. LOL I don't know if they are new ones or the same ones that have come back. I'll have to ask him next time. Anyway, I was never even sore and wouldn't have known he'd removed them if he hadn't told me. I guess I've been lucky.

While working in physical therapy, my co-workers sister had a baby. Her "roids" were bad! My friend took the infrared machine home and with only a couple of treatment, they disappeared. Having children had aggravated her "roids". My got really bad yrs. ago when I started lifting weights. Now, they come and go and I use really hot water to help them shrink back. Works well, though sometimes you need the big guns!

On a more serious vein, I know of several friends of friends where the person, all women, had symptoms of serious colon problems. Unfortunately, they were embarrassed to go to the doctor for months. They were found with advanced colon cancer, and hopefully will survive, but may not. I'm in no way equating this to your situation. I just wanted to mention it in case someone was postponing checking on a serious condition.

I had the surgery as soon as i delivered my second son.Mine were so bad during the last weeks of that pregnancy,that i literally could not sit.That was back in 1961.

I suffered from hemmroids for many years. I had the laser treatment and it made them a million times worse. I also had the surgery. The pain I had afterwards for 10 days was excruciating. Going to the washroom was really a treat. Soon after the surgery the hemmroids returned. I was crying to my doctor, I thought they couldn't come back.

He told me to cut out ALL popcorn, nuts, seeds and corn. I used to eat a lot of popcorn. I didn't think it would matter but I tried it anyway. After that the hemmroids were gone! The only time they return is if I eat a handful of nuts.

The best treatment is a good diet and long soaks in the tub.
I'm sorry to scare you about the surgury but that was my experience.

(((((Stacy!))))) Oh I feel for you girl! I had the same surgery when I was 19. On the way home from the Dr.'s the Novacaine started to wear off and by the time I got there my Mom had to help me crawl up our front steps - crying the whole way, I was! Then again after I had my first baby, she was 10 lbs. and 7 oz... 'nuff said... Now I take extra fiber EVERY SINGLE DAY... It works and I don't have them anymore, thank God. Get better quick and maybe try the fiber BEFORE you have the surgery so 'things' will go smoother when it's all over. It really does help. And yes they do come back! It can't be anymore embarrassing than having him check the front end every 3 months after surgery to remove a cancerous spot on the bladder. The problem is this month checkup found a new spot and I have to go through the surgical procedure again. This is a cute Indian doctor, probably 30 years younger than I.

I have to chime in here about the fiber business. A friend I have long since lost touch with had a terrible time with same after her child was born, and the doctor kept telling her to eat more fiber and drink the fiber drink. It got worse and on her own, she realized that too much fiber at that touchy time was exacerbating the problem. She backed off the heavy-duty fiber and felt much better. I'd say be good with the fiber when the hemorroides are in check, but be careful about too much if they are currently giving you a lot of pain. I know, not conventional wisdom, but it's what this gal went through, so I thought I'd mention it.

After not experiencing any hemmroid problems for years wouldn't ya know mine came back yesterday. I've been sneeking a lot of nuts here and there so that's probably the cause. Oh well, off to the bathtub.
