Cabinet questions--too tall & narrow?
Comments (13)Thanks everybody! Sorry, no pics of my own. My current arrangement from left to right is 12" counter, sink, 24" counter, range, 8" counter, fridge--and THAT'S IT. Moving the sink & dishwasher to the new pass-through on the other side (currently a blank wall) will give me a lot more counter & prep space that I'm really looking forward to having! Talley Sue, thanks for the encouragement & photos--your kitchen looks very nice and I'm going for a very similar look, but with light cabinets & dark counters. A divider (stile?) down the middle of the 24" cabinets would make them much less usable, so for that reason alone I may need to go to a 30" cabinet. BTW what's that faucet you have, and do you like it? It looks like it has a pull-out sprayer and I'm looking for something similar....See MoreHow narrow is too narrow for an upper door?
Comments (54)Speaking of coffee mugs... I often wish I'd seen the little shallow shelves that some people tuck under their uppers for that purpose...Or maybe made room to hang mugs. Just something else to think about and confuse the issue, maybe. ;-) I know that this is a whole 'nother option, and seems to fly in the face of my preference for the double door, but if you want to embrace the open shelves and use them more, which I can see happening because of my own experience, I could seriously consider a 12" door (hinging on the left, knob on the right) and 24" of open shelves from it to corner. (Long sentence) But again, it depends on how much open vs closed storage you want in that corner....See MoreOven Door opens too close to island :(
Comments (15)As mentioned above, if you're measuring your aisle width cabinet-to-cabinet instead of counter edge-to-counter edge, then you have even narrower aisles. Each counter extends approx 1.5" beyond the cabinets. So, a standard 24" deep cabinet against the wall has a counter that's approx 25.5" deep. Aisles are measured from the thing that sticks out the most (counter edge, appliance, appliance handle, etc.)...if there is counterspace on both sides of the aisle, then you actually have 35" of aisle width b/w those cabs/counters. A range usually sticks out even further......See More32" Entry Door too Narrow?
Comments (5)Wheel chairs are made to fit through 32 inch door openings so that shouldn’t be a concern . Anyway you have back door . Do what looks better . I’d rather have trim that matches pretty well then a door that looks off 100% of the time because it’s too narrow . Try to see if Home Depot or another store has a display with the proportions you are considering . Btw, very few contractors have an eye for design . They are trying to solve a different problem . I would still listen to their advice though ....See Morebrickeyee
