How to bleed hot water radiator?
Comments (5)Both replies were very helpful. When I opened the hex COLD water shot out right away... no air in the line, but no heat either. I chipped away the paint on the inlet valve and opened it with a vice grip. The only strange thing is that I assumed "opening" the valve meant turning it to the left (counter-clockwise) like an outdoor spigot... Turning the valve clockwise opened it and I heard water begin to flow instantly. Thanks to you all I now have heat in my bathroom! ;-)...See Morepartially filled hot water radiator system
Comments (5)It should cause no real problems to run hot water radiators filled with air for part of the system for a short time. Leaving air in them is one of the methods used to adjust the heat output. The temperature swing in the area that is being used may be greater since the boiler will have excess capacity and tend to short cycle. It will come on and quickly heat up the area, then shut off and the heat remaining in the water will tend to overheat the area being used....See MoreWall panel alternative to cast iron hot water radiators?
Comments (3)Runtal USA is pretty local to me so they get used quite a bit around here as an alternative to ordinary baseboard - in my previous house the plumber (plumbers mostly do the hot-water-based heating here, HVAC people are for forced hot air and AC) tried to talk me into a Runtal radiator/towel warmer for the bathroom. They just didn't have a style I liked. Buderus and Myson are also well known in the industry for good quality products; I've never heard of Veha and after getting into deep doodie with using a relatively unknown, bargain priced brand (Hudson-Reed) for the radiator/towel warmer in previous house's bathroom I'd personally stick with the big names. The bloody thing leaked nonstop and I canceled out the savings over a similar Myson by having the plumber back to tinker with it half a dozen times!...See MoreNew traditional-style hot water radiators: which company?
Comments (6)Thank you, CoolAir Inc.. Reeds = Hudson Reed? Are you happy enough with their quality? After a bit more investigation, I may end up going with Castrads anyway because they offer a height that is precisely what I need for the windowsills in the rooms that are not otherwise being remodeled. They would really solve all the design problems in those two rooms. But I will need to talk to my HVAC guy about what size, how many columns, etc., including whether I really need two huge rads in my living room as I have now. If I'm only doing two Castrads, one in the dining room and one in the living room, it might be worth the splurge....See Morealexia10
