Universal furniture
Comments (6)Most of the case good furniture sold in the United Sates are manufactured in China. At the popular price point such as what you might buy from Universal and Ashley it would be difficult to find anything not made in China. As far as Ashley goes they are the largest or nearly largest supplier of furniture in the US. They must be dong something right or people would not be buying their product and stores would not be carrying it. I have visited both showrooms at the trade shows in North Carolina and they do have a varied and extensive selection in all catagories. If you want to look at US made bedroom furniture you might have a look at Vaughan Bassett as an alternative. In upholstery there are a lot of imports from China but there also are many US manufacturers. In fact I would say most of the upholstery sold in the US is US made....See MoreAshley Furniture Store
Comments (27)I bought a recliner in the Greenwood Indiana store on March 13 shortly after moving to the area and due to my rural location I opted to have the item delivered. My phone number changed during this time but Ashley had my correct Internet email address. The whole of March went by without a delivery or contact with Ashley. Finally, I went down to the Greenwood store on April 9 and gave them my current phone number. On Wednesday April 13 they called and told me they would be there between 3 and 6 pm Thursday. Waited around all day Thursday till after 6 pm. Nothing. No delivery, no phone call, nothing. Called up Friday mornoing, April 15. Was assured delivery would be between 3-6pm that day, Friday. Had to do things so arrived back at my place a few minutes after 3. Found a door hanger that Ashley had been there but missed me. A call to the number on the door hanger yielded the info that the delivery person had waited an hour and left the hanger at 3:08 pm. If so, he arrived at my place well outside the 3-6 pm window. Called Ashley and they said the "window" was just a suggested time. How about the truth- that you should stay at your house all day to wait for the delivery? At least you won't get people pissed off that way. Now my stuff won't be delivered until Wednesday April 20 even though it was paid for in full March 13. I read the contract, and even though Ashley's performance has been abysmal, I can't get a refund. Bullsh*t. Because of this company's lackadaisical attitude towards customer service, they will get no repeat service. I for one will never spend another dime with them. And I will tell everyone I know who is contemplating a purchase with Ashley Furniture of my experience. In five years they will be gone and people will say "Ashley who?" Bottom line: If it's not in stock and they want you to order it, don't spend your money there. In manufacturing, this is known as JIT (just-in-time) ordering. That means it isn't built until it's ordered. Fine for manufactiuring but terrble for retailing. The merchant is fully protected, and the customer bears all the responsibility and consequence. Bottom line: Ashley Furniture are crooks!...See MoreAshley furniture or havertys?
Comments (5)I usually buy much higher quality stuff, but I went into both stores to look for a BR set for my 3 year old -- something that I wouldn't mind her chipping and scratching, etc. and that I could get rid of when she leaves for college. The Haverty's product seemed to be slightly better constructed, with wood veneers instead of particle board, better blocking in the corners, etc. I have one other piece from Ashley and after 2 years it looks awful. Definitely "disposable" furniture. Have you considered saving up a little more and buying better quality stuff that will last you longer? Nothing like having to buy a new couch in 5 years because it's falling apart. We just bought a huge (11' in each direction) fabric sectional from Smith Brothers, with a lifetime guarantee, for $7k. I don't plan on having to buy another sofa until I retire in 20+ years....See MoreCoaster and/vs Ashley Furniture quality
Comments (3)Hello Avi, I think you have done some good shopping and have good expectations. In general both companies can give excellent bang for the buck quality. If I invent my personal 1 to 10 scale Coaster items might range from 5 to 8 and Ashley 5 to 8.1. Coaster living room furniture I would generally rank lower. Ashley dining room furniture has some hits and misses thanks to durability issues of the table tops. The Coaster bedroom set you listed I do not know personally but I like. We have too much dark furniture on display lol. Your set has full extension drawers which are a neat thing and they generally do not put them drawer guides on their cheaper sets. So having not seen it I would bet if you don't let your significant other set cold beverages down on the night stands and ruin the top finish it should last you decades. The Levon Charcoal is a pretty decent Ashley stationary sofa. It is big and we have had issues with it fitting into homes but never with quality. I like it and the feel. Ashley's parts availability is great. With that serial number under the left side facing seat you can call your dealer and get a new seat cushion or padding if needed. It has a wide throw and from home watching the sick kid I can't remember if there is a center leg or not....if not and if you have a bunch of 300 plus pound friends maybe think about one. True for all sofas though. You are not doing the sleeper sofa, correct? Ashley's Birnalla dining room I do not know personally and can not see specs on. It must be homestore or back door dealings exclusive in my area. Go to the store displaying it, sit down with a spiral notebook on it and write out the cost of your pieces. If that finish doesn't look perfect when you are done pass. Ashley has some dining sets I love. They have some which are for show only. GENERALLY their dark glossy finishes suck so I think you will be ok but I urge you to test it out. How does the company you are buying from rank with the BBB and are they local to you?...See MorePieonear
