"Someone must have bought this set before it was discontinued and is now wanting to sell it because oak is no longer "the thing"!" Don't worry about your set not being "the thing". Heavy grains have made a comeback, it's just that they're now called "ash" instead of "oak", lol. Not much difference in the woods, themselves. My DR table is from French Heritage and has heavy grain. Hickory White, Drexel Heritage and many other fine furniture makers use a lot of grain in some of their lines. I love your chairs (I have a Kincaid coffee table). My only suggestion would be to see if you could, maybe, find four other side chairs and use your other two (sides) as accents in the room. Don't know if you have the space.

I don't think I have enough room to allow the back of the sofa to be a walk way. @Immcnitt I like the idea of a console table. I'll see about playing around with the layout over the next few days. I agree with the chair in the corner, it is a bit odd. I do think the layout is TOO open now and makes the table look far to small. Hmm. @Jamie Our ceilings are too high, would the new lighting need to be shorter? @Jamie I would love a new rug in the living room for sure. I hadn't thought about a rug in the dining room, maybe that would make that space feel so open now.

Jennifer, I think you know the issue here is more psychologically-related than interior design-related. My advice to you is to keep your goals inline with your values. As Donald said above: "If you want to be the kind of family that eats dinner at the table together every night then start doing it now." You're drawn to a minimalist decor? Make it happen. You start with the list of essential functions in your space (sleeping, working, eating, relaxing) then you equip each area accordingly. Nothing more. Which means you get rid of what doesn't serve one of these purposes. You mention you're a hoarder: find a way to stop that behaviour or else it could consume you and negatively impact your relationships. Things don't provide lasting soul-nourishing happiness. Relationship and experiences do. Chances are high your kid won't be interested in your childhood toys. Keep your top 5 favourite ones if you must, but no more than can fit on a small shelf. Boxes and boxes of makeup? Whatever for? You only have one face and makeup breeds bacteria so quickly. Delete Letgo and similar apps if they tempt you to buy random stuff you don't need. Instead of scrolling apps for random stuff to buy, do something else, for example, listening to short motivation inspiration videos like Mel Robbins, cleaning or exercising, etc. Any distraction to help you stay on course. Once you control the clutter, your space will make a lot more sense to you and decorating it will be easier. You can do this, Jennifer! :)

Yes, arrangement looks much better!! If you are anxious to paint, you could roll out the Natural Wicker, as you are going to need a primer anyway over that deep paint. Won't hurt to use is as basically a primer. I can't really recommend a paint until you are finished with the room. Your next step will be chairs, lamps, end tables, lamps (I would get a nesting coffee table or oval), art and drapes (which are too short).
