Moldings, Interrupted

I have a c1890 row house. The moldings around the doors and windows are the standard rosette corners with fluted sides from the period, in unpainted 'pumpkin' pine. All of the doors inside the house have transoms that go all the way to the ceiling. So, I'm sure others have had this problem, but I couldn't find the right search terms to locate the answer...How do you, or should you, put crown molding up in a room where it would meet door moldings? I thought maybe you could miter a termination before the crown gets to the transoms, but I don't think that would look good. How have other people dealt with this?
