Rehersal dinner

In our church, there are young (!!??) people, not the sharpest nor the brightest, but hard workers and steady.

He was married before with a couple of kids, one "developementally disabled" and another with a different sort of problem and she also has 2 kids and they have one together about 4, also developementally disabled.

They decided to get married and the chucrh is supporting them in any way we can....and I hope someone will give them a birthcontrol talk!!

But I digress.

I volunteered to do a rehersal dinner..."nothing fancy" they said...so I will do a chicken and pasta casserole, perhaps with peas, as there are a lot in the freezer, garlic bread as there are several loaves of french bread in the freezer, maybe I will serve the peas as a side dish...

I am planning a cranberry and 7_up punch with a frozen mold of some sort, cupcakes, served on a tiered platter....and I believe they would like a jello salad.

I know from nothing about a jello salad! I would hope I could think of something other than cranberry sauce in red jello made in a 9 by 12 dish....but...

Our goal is to give them a memorable experience, for little expenditure on our part....like trot out the silver coffee service and the fancy punch bowl, and add all the little flourishes that don't cost a penny. They are non contributing church members and will give no donation for this meal, nor the pastor nor the organist nor soloist etc...

Ideas???
