I'm so glad you two are having a good time! Canning is much more fun when you have someone to do it with. Let us know how the figs come out!

After picking the 9 lbs of figs, we cleaned and chopped the suckers, then loaded them into the pot with sugar and split vanilla beans. Here's the pot with contents {{gwi:1555459}}

After the vanilla beans start getting soft, Jessica fished them out and we {{gwi:1555460}} and threw everything back into the pot.

Then we stirred and stirred and stirred. It started getting somewhat hot in there, LOL.
{{gwi:1555461}} Until the temp rose, the liquid evaporated, the stuff started to sputter, and well, {{gwi:1555462}}

Meanwhile, Jessica's family was starving and had to be fed, so she ran out and threw a whole marinated chicken on the barbie. Unfortunately, we forgot about it until {{gwi:1555463}} We had a big laugh. Fortunately it was just burned on the outside and still tasted great.

We did have other things to eat too. But I don't know {{gwi:1555464}}

After eating, all the males beat a hasty retreat out of the kitchen lest we gals ask for more help. So Jessica and I treated ourselves to a bowl of {{gwi:1555465}} on the patio.

By then, {{gwi:1555466}} was ready to go home. So I packed up my {{gwi:1555467}}, including flowers from the garden picked for me by Jessica's sweet DH. And I went home with multiple jars of my favorite jam ever.

Gina, definately worth playing hooky from work! Looks like you had a great time and I know that jam is heaven. Jessy sent me a jar last year, the best I've ever had.

BTW, I'd recognize that TJ's grocery bag anywhere -- the one with the flowers. Odo is adorable. Oh, you two are adorable, too. That chicken is not so adorable!

Yeah Pam that chicken was beyond reemption LOL. Odo enjoyed it the most, I think. Gina was being gracious. Thats what I get for trying to multiplex!

I keep trying to think up short cuts to canning. My latest is instead of cutting up the fruit, I'll just take a mallet to a bag full of washed and trimmed figs. That'll larn them.

That looks like a lot of "good friends" time, canning is much more fun with someone to do it with. Amanda says she wants to learn to can tomatoes this year, so maybe I'll have company too.

that fig jam is wonderful, Jessica sent me a jar last year and it was so good, I didn't even share, so I'm sure you are going to enjoy that.

I'm envious too, I want to meet Odo!!
