WANTED: Deanna1949 added brightness & color to my wintery day!

Lovely , lovely Valentines Day I had--MY SWAP ( From Deanna 1949) CAME IN !!!

DeannaÂs note said she didnÂt have a theme--but IÂd have to disagree with her--this is perfectly " Kitchen" --wouldnÂt you agree ? And all wrapped & tied with colors & ribbon that match perfectly to my kitchen & style-- and each labeled with hand done cards with kitchen quotes--isnÂt that a nice detail ?

Doc thought I'd lost my mind --I'm mouthing WOW, WOW, WOW as I opened the smaller package first--( both came today , saw the Prenzey's on the outside of the box and was hoping so much it actually would have spices inside & not just a handy box you had laying around--I'm so bad ! )--those are so perfect for us--International Salt Free Seasoning Mixes collection ( Sunny Spain , Singapore , Sunny Paris , Adobe & she even tucked some loose cinnamon sticks, a couple of whole nutmeg & bay leaves into that box)--I may never use them--just open occasionally & inhale their fabulous fragrance !

Then I opened the other box & gasped - & had actual tears in my eyes-Doc said--"what's wrong-are you alright ? ". Well I was more than alright tho was instantly back in Gram's kitchen with her teaching me how to do embroidery --a few years later a similar set of kitchen towels was the first thing I made for my hope chest--starting when I was about 13 ( in 1953). They are long gone of course as is the set I helped my oldest girl start for her hope chest in 1977.Can't begin to tell you how much now having this hand made Vintage set means to me--it is absolutely perfect and brought back so many memories--itÂs just uncanny and so touching that Deanna would now - after all these years - pick out something like this for me.

The Morgan Childs scrub is so pretty & fragrant--color is perfect ( Tangerine Kitchen Hand Scrub) beautifully orange colored with flecks of dark apricot seed & would you believe Horse Chestnut in it. Going to look great on my kitchen sink ! And hand made dishcloths--one plain white ; one in white, yellow & green--matches my kitchen perfectly. Deanna did you make the dishcloths? TheyÂre so soft and pretty--

And she said please donÂt count the little cooking booklet --she really wasnÂt bending the rules--it was just a little extra she had duplicates of & sent along-- sort of filler in the box - ( Ha ).

We are spending the afternoon having the Great Debate - to clear or not to clear the driveway. There is about 3" of snow out there, and sleet coming down. If we clear, then the sleet will hit bare madacam, and freeze into a skating rink. If we don't clear, then we'll have crunchy but driveable snow, but a real mess if we get more snow on top. The current decision is to do nothing, and see if it stops precipitating later in the afternoon. It's long past what the snowblower can deal with, so anything will have to be done by shovel. For a big storm, this one is a little pussycat. We aren't having power outage weather, unless somebody slides into a pole. The roads were jammed yesterday, but everybody seems to be staying home today. I'm trying to get a baby afghan finished before Christmas

dyeing, bleaching, coloring fabric is really hard to do at home. I've had a ton of practice and still *rarely* get it right with Rit or iDye. fabrics that are dyed commercially look good because they have massive industrial setups. and unfortunately, the chemicals that work better are ones that are pretty scary. Reds/oranges/yellows are the hardest colors to get out. "color removers" are only meant to fade enough that you can put a new color on top of it. and your results are going to wildly vary depending on what was used to dye it before, and what the fabric is. you're probably never going to achieve fading all the way to champagne unless you use an aggressive amount of chlorine bleach. worse, if you try to add violet or something to tone down bright yellow, you'll probably end up with something muddy and bad. and/or damage your fabric the more you treat it. (similar principals apply when people try to bleach and dye hair.) you might either embrace the color as-is or pick a dye that will work with the yellow undertone. maybe it's time for you to decide that piece of fabric is better off in a different room and buy a new piece that's already the color you want.

miles - I don’t think any area is experiencing normal weather patterns anymore. Each of the past several years, each season, my area has had record breaking heat or cold. We’ve had 115 F mid summer ’heat domes’ - who ever heard of a heat dome? That heat lasted several days too. That record high heat is unheard of - this isn’t AZ or TX after all! We had 6” of snow in an April snow fall just this year which of course melted away pretty quickly but still - snow in April here?? We had 8” in February a couple years ago - this is ridiculous in an area where no snow winters are not too unusual. This year we’ve had a couple days of 80 F + in May - a record for May. Yesterday we had rain - sorely needed but temps only in high 60’s! We only have to watch national / world weather reports to know we are not unique in our odd seasonal weathers. Climate change anyone? Kathy W.

I have cappuccino marble tile in a subway pattern. The grout lines are very fine, and the color variations in the tiles have a natural look. They were sealed front and back before installing, and then sealed twice more, once the mastic and grout were dry. I have had no problems with keeping them clean, and it's been 7 years. It was worth the extra cost of the prep. That being said, they were not my first choice. That would have been a hand-made crackle glaze tile from California with a 6-month wait time and VERY expensive. I would have had to order way more than I needed, just to make sure that there were enough. Plus, the edge tiles did not fit my application. The marble ones had pencil tiles that fit the layout better.

You've certainly had a great Valentine's Day Diane. The seasoning blends couldn't be more perfect for a great cook who has to meet diet needs. And how nice that the towels brought back so many family memories.

Deana, did you make the dishcloths? They look like some I have made, knitted, 100% cotton? Very pretty. I like the hand scrub included with these.

What a wonderful, wonderful package. Couldn't be more perfect for Diane. I bet that box smelled wonderful when it was opened. And how neat that the tea towels being back such fond memories. I'd say that Deanna sure put together the perfect swap box. Enjoy it all Diane.

I'm glad that Diane appreciated the swap gift. I just tried to think of what I would like to receive. I did make the dishcloths. I've found that I can whip them out pretty fast while I'm reading the posts at the Forum. I like to try to do multi-tasking! If anybody else wants some, just let me know.

Diane took lovely pictures. I think they look better than the actual package! And I'm glad the spices arrived promptly. They were sent direct from the store, and the nutmeg & cinnamon fillers are their classy touch, not
mine...wish I could take the credit.

Deanna, you did very, very well indeed. Those dishtowels are adorable, I love the girl and her puppy. Like Diane, they remind me of embroidering with Grandma when I was small, although I did pillowcases and all of Dad's handkerchiefs. LOL

What a great package, and the salt free seasonings are perfect. I can smell the cinnamon from here.

Hand made dishcloths are too much! And the perfect accompianment to the adorable towels. Love those vintage linens. I have Little Lulu applicated towels made by a dear family friend. (I loved Lulu when very young.) I used to use them but now only get out for special occasions
