Yes Britbrit, things at BMs house are much worse than we suspected. I suppose that, prior to now, this craziness didnt spring forth since my SD didnt spend enough time here. But now that shes been living with us full time for -- what -- 2 months now, these things are slowly coming to light. Lazygardens, good question! Top 10 Rules at our House: 1) Be nice, be polite. 2) We will all be respectful and supportive of each other. 3) If you use it, put it back. If you dirty it, clean it. 4) Use your brain! Think! Assert your individuality! 5) If you have a problem or a question, speak up. Anything can be openly discussed. If it appears that something is on your mind, you will be asked about it. 6) Everyone has the right to retreat to their private sanctuary (aka bedroom) without being disturbed. 7) Knock before entering. ALWAYS! 8) Everyone has the right to their own opinion or ideas without being criticized (well, if its really funny maybe well all share a hearty laugh over it). 9) Laughter is a good thing. Jokes welcome anytime. Play, have fun! 10) Remember your manners. (Ok, its fine to get gross now and then for a giggle, but always mind your manners when in public). Say please and thank you. Hmmm its hard to squeeze an entire lifestyle and philosophy into 10 simple rules! :-) Oh -- and I almost forgot my favorite .. passed down thru the generations ... and never fails to get a smile from the kids ... 'YOU'RE BIG AND UGLY ENOUGH TO DO IT YOURSELF' ...

My daughter is thinking of getting this dress

Georgysmom, thanks for your opinion. I'm kinda like you, I would never feel comfortable in a dress like that but my daughter probably wouldn't care, as long as the top was covered with something. This girl had her dad buy her Gene Simmons'-like KISS boots and she wore them to school until one buckle fell off. And yes, the other kids think she's weird but she really doesn't care. She now has two pair of the same type boots on her Christmas wish list. She wears her baggy Star Wars pj bottoms out in public and could care less what other people think. She wears my chop sticks in her hair all the time, among other weird things. She's even worn my old "80's" jeans jacket to school before. (I stole it back when I lost a bunch of weight). So, I doubt she would care if everyone else were in more "normal" clothing than she was. She likes what she likes and I wish I were more like her. Chisue, actually 15 years olds in Spain and Germany do go clubbing-lol and my daughter wants to go to Spain next summer so she can go with our Spanish exchange student! I think the whole old fashioned look to the dress is what appeals to my daughter. That, and it's different from what other girls her age would wear.

Denny and I got one on our 40th Anniversary... But just recently our ggson bumped into the table it sat on, it fell off and broke into too many pieces to try to put it back together. I was sad about it, but he was so sweet...he picked up some of the pieces and brought it to me saying " I'm sorry grandma...I broke this". He could have just ignored it or tried to hide it. I'd love to have another one to replace it. It came with a note from my cousin Keith who could be with us on that day, because of health issues. The note was so special I kept it folded and tucked under one of the arms. I think she'll love it. patti

I think we all need to take a deep breath. I do think that there should be some form of etiquette when reading these threads. Side story: Once I posted a dilemma I was having on deciding what to do about a social matter. I received lots of good advice, and as often on here, most wasn't what I expected. But, there was one person who felt obligated to stress how trivial my thread was! Why would I even take the time to post such a thing? Here's why: The Kitchen Table is the place where you can talk about everything. Nothing is off limits from the silly to the serious. What I believe is off limits is to try to shut down a post because in your opinion is should not have been shared in the first place. For those who don't know who they are, nothing wrong with asking. Although I happen to know A-Rod, I wouldn't know most athletes as I don't follow sports.

Well that's a big hurdle over with. DAd's are really marshmallows when it comes to their little girl so that part shouldn't be too much of a problem. Enjoy every minute of this special time.

Beautiful dress, I love it! She's got it, when it comes to those dads, they are a push over...those little girls usually have their dads on their little fingers, or at least ours did! LOL

What a gorgeous dress. I went wedding dress shopping with my future DIL the day after Thanksgiving, and we found her dress. I learned that the style your DD picked requires a beautiful figure to carry it off. She will look lovely in it.

awww thanks everyone me I have no idea what I am wearing...Kat you are not confused they went as syd puts it up to the court house to get married just so that when cody gets stationed they will already be on the married housing list and the army will pay to move her also as his wife....but he wants a wedding he said he wants to see her walk down the aisle......so we are planning on a sept. 22 wedding as long as he can get leave.....it will be a simple but beautiful outdoor wedding so not much prep to do if it becomes last minute the most important part is the dress and I think we got it....syd has worn the mermaid style to her senior prom and can pull it off an looks beautiful in it....soooo this dress was perfect!!! Second one she tried on and of course the most expensive but I beleive her daddyas will get it for her!
