Arthritic mom has trouble dressing herself
Comments (2)My mom spent all her "at home time" in a nice moo moo spelled wrong but I can't think of right spelling. Slipped over her head & she could go without a bra as didn't show anything & prints were colorful. For her it was easier to get on than anything else. Rest of time she wore slacks & fitted tops (& bra which was hard for her to fasten) she always looked very fashionable when she went out & often took her clothes in if she lost some weight for a perfect fit. She won sewing contests as young woman & everything was tailored up to the end. So sometimes easier if tops slip over head then button or wrap. Don't think wrap skirt would be good as I had a couple over the years & had trouble keeping them in place. I thought they were cool until I almost "Lost" 1 when I was out & didn't notice it had come undone until I sat down & nearly lost it. That doesn't sound like a good idea for older woman. an elastic waist that is just pulled up where she could sit until it is up to knees & then stand & pull rest of way up. Could be slim skirt or more flared but pants work well as no nylons needed & they are hard to get on. Could wear the little short ones with slacks....See Moremy mom is slowly killing herself and I don't know what to do
Comments (4)I am sorry to hear that your going through so much with your mom. I KNOW what you are going through. My first husband died of an overdose. We were divorced about 5 years before he died. We were close even after divorce. We just couldnt live together because of his addiction. All I can tell you is that there is nothing you can do for her. She has to get help for herself. Until then you can continue to make sure she has groceries & etc. Because we love them we will always do things for them. But there is a fine line between helping and enableing. Sounds like you know this since you stated you dont give money to her. Alot of people will thell you to cut her off or use "tough love". I think thats right when it comes directly to the drug use. But I also know that addicts are human and have serious problems. I just wouldnt cut her off. When she does pass away one day (hopefully from old age)you will not have to feel guilt from everything. Believe me there will be guilt. I had to learn that even though I did the best I could and all the choices I made in regards to my husband wasnt always right I did the what I thought was best at the time. Took me a long time to not beat myself up. I still do over some things. Just let her know you love her and you are willing to help her get help when she asks for it and until then you can only see to it that she has the basics. Hang in there, its hard loving an addict....See MoreDo you let your baby cry herself to sleep?
Comments (53)I wonder if it would be possible to return to Jen_C's original question, you guys? Seems to me that's what these forums are for.....as for anything else, well...you guys can start your OWN forum and duke it out amongst yourselves over THERE. ___________________________________________ As to the original question(s), seems to me you're asking the following: 1) Is it normal for a baby to have their days and nights mixed up, as far as sleeping? The short answer is yes, lol. If you think back to when your baby was still inside you...try to remember what time of day or night the baby was most active. For my DS, he was most active inside me from about 11 pm to about 4 am.....so when he was born, he was most active during those hours. Seems like it took me forever to get him onto a somewhat "normal" schedule. 2) Is it ok to let your newborn baby cry herself to sleep? For me, personally....when DS was newborn, my DH and I rocked him to sleep, or cuddled with him on our bed until he did. We didn't let him cry himself to sleep when he was newborn. 3) How long do you allow the baby to cry before you pick him/her up for a cuddle? Again, for me personally.....in the beginning, when DS was newborn, I picked him up immediately. As time has passed, however, I'm letting the amount of time he cries to be a little longer. He's 6 months old now, and I let him cry maybe 10 mins before I go back in to reassure him. I don't necessarily pick him up, though. Standing over or near the crib reassures DS just fine, most of the time. Sometimes, though....even after giving him 10 mins to get to sleep on his own, and then reassuring him from above or near the crib...he still needs a cuddle. So, I cuddle! Just for a few mins, then it's back in the bed. Sometimes this gets repeated about 3-4 times before he actually goes to sleep. He's falling asleep a lot more on his own now. For me, gradually increasing the time I allow him to cry has worked, and it's teaching him to be a little more self-reliant, while he still knows that we're there. 4) How long in between feedings? My DS woke up about every 2 hours anyway, so I NEVER had to worry about him going too long without food. Of course, at night...this meant I didn't get much sleep, either! :) 5) and finally, WHEN CAN YOU CATCH UP ON SLEEP? LOLOL...this is the question for the ages. I don't think I'll EVER catch up. Now, mind you, there are babies that sleep much longer (envious sigh). A friend of mine had twin boys, who slept 7-8 hours STRAIGHT, right from birth!! She had to wake them to feed, but holy cow, they were NEVER in any danger of starving, lol. They're 8 months old now and they weigh upwards of 27 lbs each. (when they were born, one weighed just under 8 lbs, and one was just over 8 lbs. At 38 weeks, no less! Can you imagine if she'd gone the full 40 weeks??)...See Moreso what did you think about the dress?
Comments (45)I agree with everything Caroline said. Hopefully this will end the hoochie mama red carpet look (worst) or prom queen (pretty bad) look for brides. When I got married those horrible foo foo mutton legs or whatever the heck you call them were in fashion. Being a size 3 that had to be taken in and 5'1" tall shopping for a dress was a PITA. Went with my DD for her bridesmaids dress fitting recently and 99% of the gowns were strapless with the rest being sleeveless with thin straps. Even the bridesmaids dresses. BTW despite "fashion" I choose a long sleeved high necked dress that actually suited me. Otherwise I would have looked like a lamb being led to slaughter in those awful sleeves of that time....See Morejemdandy
