I guess Docs don't call @ 8:30 on Sunday night with good news...

My gastro. Doctor called last night a 8:30... after a little small talk about the super bowl, (heartbroken for the Cards, by the way.. LOL) he informed me that he thinks my cancer is back. He is calling my oncologist this morning and wanted to let me know why I would be receiving calls from the docs there. I also have deformed abdominal wall, from my previous exploratory surgery, causing the huge bump in my gut, but says unless it bothers me (other than looks), he wouldn't suggest the surgery, it's pretty major.

Cross you fingers that the lymphoma isn't back, I could use some luck! lol

Decisionmaker and all others who are having a rough time, I hope things get better soon my heart goes out to you hearing your stories and frustration. Someone compared this process to pregnancy and childbirth and I think that is true. Dreamed of, prayed for, all that fun in 'planning' :), then when you are actually expecting it is so exciting then it is so scary, then you feel sick for...months...then you feel better then the last weeks drag on and on and finally you don't think you can take it and then after great work and pain you get the greatest gift you have ever known and forget all the bad things and feel the joy. I hope you will all feel the joy SOON. For myself, I tend to be a 'researcher' and feel empowered even in the midst of a stressful situation if I am prepared for it and know why things are happening. So I am wondering, if you could share what in particular has caused you the most stress and if you could have done anything to avoid it or if it is just a part of the building process? Beehappy2007, I immediately thought of The Owner Builder Book, and Amy Johnston's Book when you asked about resources so there is a second recommendation for you. As for your land purchase, I am sure a lawyer will tell you this, or even an escrow officer: get a title report and make sure there is a provision for title insurance in the contract. You might also check on the availability of utilities and water. If there are going to be higher than average costs for septic, utilities or water or if there are zoning restrictions or easments it can affect the 'usability' of the land and therefore affects the value. Bellamay, From this and other posts I have read from you, you seem to be a builder with integrity that truly cares about your customers and others who are building homes. Perhaps you could share from your point of view how some of the stress and heartache can be avoided...or at least lessened? I know I would appreciate any helpful advice on how to have a smoother build and I'm sure others would too. Thanks.

roarah - thanks for that link - interesting perspective. I also read another article about B&N transformation. It's a fascinating dilemma when a company has to cannibalize itself to survive - e-readers vs. print, printed checks vs. debit card, CDs vs. iTunes, etc. I'm actually part of a company that has been going through this. I work for what was a technology start-up that got acquired by a 100+ year old publisher. It's fascinating to be in the middle of the transformation.

If I have another stress test, I will have to leave strict instruction NOT to leave a message at home (they should have called my cell phone, they HAD the number). I had a stress test. The nurses told me it would be about a week before I heard, unless there was a problem. That night, after work, after 5pm when the doc's offices close, there was a message on my phone that I was to see the Dr. the next morning at 8:30. Well, needless to say, I didn't sleep very well. Scared to death! Got in there, my BP was outrageous, of course... Turns out the DOC was going on VACATION and just wanted to close out his cases... My heart was fine. Talk about GIVING someone a heart attack! I told the front desk NEVER to leave someone a message like that after they've had a stress test or at least TELL the patient the doc is going on vacation and wants to close out his cases! Jeepers! An experience I will never EVER forget!

This is a board certified, 'highly regarded' MD. He's in practice with his wife, also board certified. I don't know if their 'nurse' is a licensed nurse practitioner, but...she's HIS nurse and when she calls in a prescription she's giving HIS licence, evidently authorized BY HIM. If she didn't note the Metrogel on DH's chart, is that the patient's fault? If the MD didn't *read* the chart, is that the patient's fault? Exactly who, if not the MD, 'prescribed' the Metrogel? This is *sloppy*! If you call this office you can NEVER speak with or receive a call back from either MD. You have to first tell a receiptionist the whole problem, then -- if she feels like it -- she will pass you along to the nurse so you can tell it all over again. My late MIL, an RN and hospital administrator, always said that dermatology is the ideal practice: Your patients don't die (do to anything you do) and they don't get well; you have them *forever*. Well, not this patient in this case. We think the practice is so large -- and so lucrative -- that it is an assembly line. There's a nine month wait for another appointment should you need to cancel a semi-annual checkup -- even calling a month in advance to re-schedule. Jodi -- Thanks for the Kukui Nut Oil tip. I'm ready to try anything, once DH gets over this nasty reaction. I've seen that stuff all over when we are on Maui. Does your DH have to keep using it, or did the condition clear up and stay clear? My DH is also very fair-skinned, with light blue eyes. His birthmom was Irish and birthfather Northern Italian. Years ago a dermatologist who was seeing him for precancerous stuff said he had the palest shade of skin. (He has to see a dermatologist regularly for screening. Too many years on the tennis team in HS and earlier days outdoors at a summer camp on a lake.) Ordinarily I would have some blistering remark to relate to you: DH's reply to the MD. He'd spent time in the waiting room calming himself, reminding himself that getting angry wouldn't help him. He couldn't think of a reaonable reply to that stupid question -- only to say the doctor's office prescribed it; here's the (useless and worse) tube of Metrogel; now what?

Thanks everyone. But, I went to see my oncologist this morning at 7:30 and it is BACK. I leave here in 10 minutes to have another CaT scan. he wants it taken not of just my abdomen, but my chest as well. So, I will have another scan of my abs too! I'm not too happy about it at all. But what can you do? Thanks for your prayers. I could use some more that the cancer is just in this one spot. foliicular cell non hodgkin lymphoma. yuck! lol

yeah, I was in shock because I had an a okay from the doc in the later part of November, but there is really no way to tell for sure if it's back without scans. No real tumor markers in the blood like there are for other cancers. Just the one blood test that can indicate there might be a problem if there are some higer levels of(insert something I can't pronounce and therefore can sound out to spell it.. here! LOL) and that was totally normal.

yep, Terri, its not a fast grower. But as the doc told me my first visit a few years ago, there is also no cure. So, I just hope that the little buggers don't get resistant to the fun little chemicals! LOL I'll play a little video blaster game in my head while taking chemo! lol But, we might watch this for a while too. It's just one lymph node, and there were a lot more involved last time. But apparently this one is HUGE HUGE HUGE! Yeah, I always say, more is more! I don't believe the old saying , less is more! So, hopeing that there are no more little buggers in the new scans.

Thanks for the prayers everyone! Darn! I jUST found a great new hair stylist for my last 3 cuts that I LOVE! And at fantastic Sams no less... and incredible cut for $20 bucks! Beats every $75 cut I've had lately! lol

Oh, and guess what? Baseball season starts today. Ryan's team is travelling to Tennesse today for their first games! Sheesh! seems so early and so cold!

Gee, I'm sorry to hear you are having to do battle again, Kat; you've had a lot on your plate lately. Our dear friend was diagnosed a year ago and had great success with the (new-ish?) chemo drug they gave him, for now. Though I know there's no cure for now there are a lot of new drugs in the pipeline, so let's hope one or more of them might turn out to be the winner and cure. Thinking of you.
