I just painted me boys' room, age 6 and 3. I wanted something fun and bright, but was hestitant to go with a theme because they will outgrow it before I have time to paint again. I did a really rich blue wall (medium to dark color - I just found a blue shirt I really liked, then used it to pick a paint color.) The blue really pops with the trim I painted white, their white dresser and warm pine colored beds. Then, I painted 3 stripes about 1 foot from the ceiling - thin white (about 1 inch thick), then a thin band of the wall color, then red (about 10 inches thick), then a band of the wall color, then thin white again. It goes all the way around the room, and adds some serious pizzaz and helps to make the space appear larger. I did the same stripe in my last house at chair rail height, and stenciled some Dr Seuss words on it for a more juvenile effect. You could stencil any shapes you wanted, or use those wall stickups if you wanted a theme. Then I added red/blue plaid quilts, and some fun artwork, some red/blue striped curtains with white curtain rod, etc. It is super cute and they won't outgrow it anytime soon, I hope! To the person looking for surfboards, I saw one seller who makes them on ebay if you search, and they are super cute. I looked at her surfboards and ended up just making my own with plywood and a jigsaw. Not that hard of a project, and I was able to personalize them for my girls.

Hi becca, I too am one who hates hunting camo. That being said, I come from a family of men who love to hunt. We also bleed purple and gold (LSU) so I combined the two feels to give him a true Louisiana boys room with a gentleman's touch while not being trendy. Again not sure if your talking Mossy Oak or Desert Storm, but this what I did in my son's room in our old home. I painted the room BM Woodstock Tan (a deep sort of brown). I bought a duvet and had a cover made from an army green colored cordouroy (sp) with wooden buttons for the enclosure (also had a sham made). I used RL leopard sheets on the bed with the Mossy Oak camo panels on the windows. What I didn't account for when making the duvet cover was the weight of the cordouroy (it is really heavy) nice in the winter, but I take it off in the summer and just use the white duvet. It lightens things up a bit (can get dirty if not careful). Also, I swap out the camo panels in the summer for white ones as well. The other camo accent that I had in that room was a portrait of him in camo with his gun from my father sitting on an old shotgun shell box. His furniture is different from that you will have as his is all antique from my grandmother's, but I am sure this can be retrofitted to match your furniture. The great thing about these colors is that they are pretty neutral so accent colors stand out well. Like the purple and gold LSU newsprints that I have matted in purple in his room and other LSU paraphanalia. Red also looks good against these colors. All of these colors and patterns may sound a bit busy, but used properly they compliment each other really well. We have since moved from this home, but I continue to use variations of this since it is something that works well with all ages and can grow with them. Roo, I recently went to our local decorator showhouse and they had a room with a car theme so here are some ideas: The neatest thing I saw was an oval mirror with a black frame with matchbox cars glued to the frame to look like a racetrack. They also had valances and a bedskirt made from pices of (what looked like) felt with pictures of various license plates. It looked like they used photo print material and ironed it onto the pieces of felt. They had a seat from the back of a van as seating (it was kind of neat, and kind of odd simultaneously - if that makes sense.) They also had 1 wall covered in maps as the theme had a travel element to it as well. I know these are not exactly baby oriented but if you decide to go with cars, the ideas might get you thinking. I do think the oval mirror was so cute and could be cheap and easy and would be okay for a baby too. Pam

The first thing I would add is a huge cork board for each boy to save th walls from becoming pin cushions.with posters memorbilia etc. We always did that with our boys.I would see what colors they like hopefully they ca agree on one and then paint that color on one wall and the rest a nice neutral that works with that color.Add bedding to reflect their interests . I think some shelves are a good idea for a few things to be displayed for sure.The lamp and the drapes are way too formal for a boys room. Maybe some woven shades for the window and wall lights for each bunk. I would not bother with a desk unless one of them actually will use it. In my experience kids sit on their beds with a laptop to do homework. Maybe a table in the play space for craft stuff if they are into building planes etc Maybe afold out bed/ chair where the dresser is for sleepovers .
