My dad and dialysis and an angel gift

Back in '85 my dad had his first kidney removed due to cancer. He functioned great with just one kidney until late 2003. January, 2004, he had his other kidney removed and began dialysis. Our dialysis center here was great... great staff, great patients. We made lots of friends during that period.

As the months dragged on, dad got weaker and weaker. The cancer had spread to other areas. He continued dialysis but was unable to dress himself, get out to the car or into the dialysis center without help and a wheelchair. Often he had lengthy waits before getting a chair. It always made me so sad to watch him waiting his turn, unable to hold his head up, so very tired all the time.

It was on a Wednesday after his dialysis that he made the decision to not go back. On sunday we took him to the emergency room. They offered him dialysis but he declined. A couple days later they moved him from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility. He died a week after his last dialysis.

So him, jannie and bulldinkie have been on my mind alot after the ladies had a hard time getting to dialysis due to weather. Just wanted to share.

While dad was in the hospital, my mom and I were walking the halls. The walls were full of pictures. We saw one that we particularly liked. It was a picture of Jesus holding his arms out to embrace. Later that afternoon a woman brought the picture into daddy's room. She was told to deliver it as a gift but didn't know who had sent it. Later in the day we kept an eye out for the woman to try and find more info on who could have gifted it. We never saw the woman again, have no idea even to this day who the benefactor was. The picture now hangs in my mom's living room.

I miss my dad a great deal
