Beautiful room, there's so many possibilities! We have a room pretty big like your's but the FP is in the corner.

We put the sofa in the middle of the room with a sofa table behind it. Chairs on each side of the sofa. It makes the fireplace part of the "grouping" which makes it very cozy. And since I like a cozy living room, I decorate it in jewel tone colors, deep reds, dark greens, and dark wood floor.

I can't wait to see the finished product!

Thank you Oakleyok. Your room sounds very nice! My dilemma is that I've heard that the largest piece of furniture should face the focal point(fireplace), but I've also heard not to put the back of the couch to the entrance of the room. Any thoughts on that?

I have no ideas on the furniture placement but the piano will look great in the music room! What a neat place for it.

I have no problem with the back of a sofa facing the entrance to the room if there's a sofa table behind it.

It looks too bare, IMHO, if the sofa back is exposed.

I envision some beautiful bookcases along the blank wall.

Then either 2 loveseats facing each other in front of the FP, or 1 loveseat with 2 chairs facing the loveseat.
And a nice coffee table or ottomon between them.

I love the table behind the sofa idea as well as bookshelves along the wall.

Gracie - Ideally I love seating facing each other like that. I just don't know if I have room enough to pull it off with the stairs. The seating that would back to the stairs would either sit so close to the stairs that it wouldn't allow for a walk space behind(though maybe that's not a big deal?), or if scooted out to make a small walk way it would block the fireplace. Don't know if that makes sense or not. Although, maybe it could work if I found small enough chairs for that side...

I immediately thought of Zuzu's stunning living room.
How about a similar set up with comfy chairs and a low, round coffee table?

So funny, Loribee -- as I was looking at all the answers, all I could think of was "She needs to see Zuzu's photo" -- one of my favorite rooms I've ever seen here. Does anyone have that picture to post? I'm thinking of the setup with 4 easy chairs (I think there were 4?) with a coffee table in the center, in front of a fireplace. I think that would be great in this room, unless spacing gets too tight over where those stairs are. It's worth a try. Mitri, if I were you I'd get some graph paper, draw out a floor plan with accurate dimensions of that space (since it's new construction, you probably have that already from the architect's plans), and experiment with some different arrangements.

A row of bookshelves would be fantastic in this "library"! Perhaps two taller bokcases on each end of the row -- with shorter ones between them. Then artwork could be hung in that space. Lighting would be key -- along the bookcases -- plus an art light over the artwork.

Seating depends on how many people (generally) are entertained here .... remember there may be groups to listen to the piano.

Perhaps a small neat sectional (one of the smaller ones from Pottery Barn) in a white linen slipcover. Add a couple of small but comfy armchairs on each side of the fireplace. An ottoman could be placed directly in front of the fireplace.
