white or off white trim? Help!
Comments (10)For all of our trim and doors, I chose to use a soft creamy white that has a slight yellowish tint to it. I love the way it looks. The one we used is Behr's Pot of Cream and IMHO it's perfection. While refurbishing the foreclosure home we bought a couple of years ago, we've added crown molding and replaced every door and piece of trim in the house. Everything is now painted with this same white and I'm tickled with it. It's not something anyone else notices, but I love how it's nice and crisp but easy on the eyes. There are hundreds of whites and when you put them directly next to each other, yes, you can see their differences, but once you pick one and put it on the trim and doors, it will just look white and really only you will probably notice. Our floors are walnut and oak and I've used cool colors and warm, regardless this Pot of Cream white looks great with all of it. I've even painted furniture with it and plan on eventually painting our kitchen cabinets with it too. In regards to the switches and covers I have just used standard white of each. None of them sit next to the trim and they all blend, but there are light switches you can paint to match. The vent covers I'd leave alone. If it were me, I'd never opt for builder anything. Take the designers advise and pick a soft creamy white....See MoreIvory White, Linen White, White Dove BM Color Dilema
Comments (24)Ivory white is not Acadia white. Ivory white #925 is in the Classic colors fandeck and Acadia white #OC38 is in the Preview colors fandeck. They are very close in color. jbrodies' kitchen that was recently posted as finished has cabinets in Acadia White. Here's a pic of ours while being remodeled. We're not quite done yet, but you can get an idea of the Ivory White color. The wall next to the cabinet has been primed so it is white in color and you can see the Ivory white next to it has a bit of yellow creaminess to it. My hutch top is walnut so you can see it next to brown. Also, I have a lot of natural light in my kitchen, during the evening the cabs look even more creamy. I think either color would look great with Tropical Brown....See MoreHelp! Rethinking colors - white and off white - please vote
Comments (4)I suspect if you change to all whites, they won't be exactly the same shade of white, either. Pre-update, I had a white sink and a couple of white appliances and none of them were exactly the same shade of white, nor did any of the whites match the off-white cabinets nor the white countertop appliances (coffeemaker, coffee grinder, microwave). If your granite is as drop-dead-gorgeous as it sounds, THAT is what will be noticed! I agree with yesdear (love that name!) that you could switch the faucet and keep everything else off-white. Or have you checked to see if you can just switch the white handles? Some faucets come with a choice of tip colors and can be changed....See MoreHelp! Comments (13)I have off-white and although I love it now, it was a NIGHTMARE to get it to look half decent. Instead of gray undertones, mine have PINK. You would never know it now but I had to go through 3 wall colors, going darker and darker to make the off-white appear whiter. I had to forget the white subway backsplash I'd planned and get something that wasn't so bright white. Then, I had to paint all the trim in the room off-white because having too much bright white in the room, made the cabinets look pink or dingy, depending on the lighting. I'm not trying to discourage you, because it is a nice look.... It's not impossible to pull off, just takes some extra coordination. My carpenter is going with off-white and he witnessed the whole debacle. He said he loves it! Thankfully, my kitchen is closed off to the rest of the rooms, 2 doorways and a pass through window. The rest of the house still has white trim. Despite everything, again, I love my new kitchen. I even noticed that I prefer my brighter white ceramic utensil caddies and vases in the room now. I thought I was doomed to off-white everything forever. Here's the result, not finished yet but not dingy!...See MoreUser
