How many meals do you typically eat daily?

Mostly, three.

I typically have a small oatmeal for breakfast, then something light for lunch and a full dinner. On weekends, just two meals ... something mid-morning to cover both breakfast and lunch, and then dinner.

I'll chime in and agree with GreenDesign. We have our 90% finished plans and will get the blueprints Monday. It's been tedious. The client goes to the architect with all their wants. Just like jeff2718, we are on a lot that is longer than it is wide. With our constraints and wants, there were things that could be done and couldn't. Plus, after you take budget, square footage, etc. into consideration, something has to be given in order to take from somewhere else. And if you move a wall here, you have to shift entire lengths of walls and other walls are shifted b/c of that length of wall. With us, We started wanting our master downstairs, turned stairs that did NOT face the front door and we wanted our living area, dining, kitchen to be one open "L" shaped area with the breakfast/dining and living all against the backyard wall so you could see right out to the backyard (and the kitchen would be part of that eating area). My DH's guy space would also be downstairs. Well, we then started thinking about how my mom comes to stay with us a lot and decided in the end, to try to fit the guest suite downstairs instead of up w/ the kids' spaces, which then moved my small exercise space (that was right off of the master) UPSTAIRS and it got bigger as a result. Also as a result, the L-shaped living area became a long open space instead of the L ...kitchen then dining/breakfast and living in that order with the living open to the backyard. It's still one big space but with the eating area between and a window seat bump-out bay-window with hutches on either side. It wasn't my ideal lay-out in the beginning at all (when we were deciding between the L and this and could do both) but I've grown to like the layout now that I've "lived" with it on paper. However, with this change, my turned stairs changed into a straight staircase that you walked right into from the front door. THAT was a deal breaker for me. Back to the drawing board he went and somehow maneuvered things to put the stairs sideways again and with the turn. Yay! But I think a closet shrunk in doing that. There's been a LOT of other adjusting but it's just things like that that happen. It's like a big puzzle...all the pieces have to fit in the end, PLUS fit into the entire shell of the exterior and into your budget. So you will go through drafts and figure out what are the most important things to you and what you can give up and what you can't. Everyone thinks it's so fantastic to build. And it is great to be able to have a lot of control over what you want. But there's also the misconception that when one builds, they get to have everything they want! Unless one has a really large lot and a really large budget, there will be give and take in order to keep things realistic and to make things fit.

Hah, I've got this one down pat! When you eat some form of pasta for three or four meals a day for a solid week or more!! I do this often. I need to eat three or four or more small meals a day and sometimes the only meal that's not pasta is supper with Christy, but then...sometimes she eats something else and I eat pasta for supper too. Bwahahaha... I even freeze quite a bit of the sauce so that I can have fresh sauce after I run out of the first pound of pasta. Sometimes I have my pasta with just butter, or butter and sour cream or with cottage cheese and of course there are periogies with sour cream and gnocchi or ravioli with sour cream. After about a week or ten days I make my next big pot of chili... and eat that with...rice...or bread...or tortilla's or... some darn carb...potatoes.... My name is Coconut and I am a carb lover. [psst...when the little crabs were mentioned and then Annie said didn't eat enough of them..... gagggg..... I too figured he meant the body crabs...shudder...gaggg..] Now if I lived back in New Orleans and could get crabs all the time............I'd still eat pasta two or three times and day and crabs once or twice...lol. Btw, my A1C is excellent as is my cholesterol and such. I think it's all the sauce. My weight, not so much, but I'm a nice healthy obese person. Smiles.

No flexibility here unless it is something really, really important. "Supper" is at 6pm sharp! I am very, very, good at getting the complete meal set out on the counter promptly at 6. We fill our plates at the counter and DH takes them to the table. I give him a 10 minute before the hour warning by saying, "you should be in the kitchen getting ready". You wouldn't believe the things he suddenly is 'compelled' to do on his way. He will check the tv listings, change into his evening loafing clothes, does his blood sugar, then may decide to update his blood sugar log with the last 2 weeks results. While filling his insulin syringe he will decide it's time to change to a new bottle and replenish the syringe supply from a back room closet. Gets side tracked while washing his hands and may decide that now is the time to clip his nails etc, etc. Once in the kitchen, now may be the time to refill the water jug, pick the label off an empty pill bottle, or wash a pot or two. Meanwhile, I have filled my plate and am sitting at the table waiting for him to bring my now barely warm food. Drives me crazy!

Thank you for your responses everyone, all are very helpful. We always use a very nice tablecloth for a large party because that is when we have kids of all ages, older folks, someone who might have had an extra drink or two etc. And with a large crowd in the house who is going to look at the table anyway. The tablecloth goes to dry-cleaners and is then stored untill the next occasion. But you guys are right, for a nicer table I might have to get some padding to put under the tablecloth. For every day use or for a small gathering I want to see the table. Tracie and everyone else with the glass covers, I am with you on that and would love glass but we need a table with leaves to accomodate DH's large family when we need it. That means removing the glass, taking it to another room and then putting it back. I don't think that would work, would it? Does anyone here do it? I am going to look into waterlox very seriously as it sounds like what we might need (mondragon, I love your table, it came our great. I am thinking of something like this but darker) and also will check the Antique Tables Made Daily shop (thanks amberley) and the Cost Plus Market (thanks beschenbach) cawaps, sorry about the acetone accident. johnliu, wow, those are some cool choices, so creative Sweeby, RH has some great things. I really like RH Camden Trestle Table but the larger one is too large and the smaller one doesn't extend. And even that one says "veneers". They do have salvage wood tables but that would be way too rustic for us.

I guess three but sometimes I just graze from 10-2 and then some kind of meal after work especially if DH is in town. I usually bring an inventory of healthy foods to work and pick and choose when I'm hungry - milk, yogurt, fruit, carrots and other vegetables, packaged oatmeal, low sodium V8, unsalted nuts, Fiber One cereal, Kashi snack bars, etc. I don't usually take much of a lunch break as it just means I'll end up working later at night.

Usually two pieces of whole wheat toast with butter and a cup,sometimes 2,of coffee.I probably won't eat again until dinner time.I eat when I'm hungry.I drink several glasses of iced tea during the day.

One whole meal at dinner, but toast or English muffins with V-8 or whatever I feel like around 1 p.m. Sometimes saltines and pepperoni ;-) Terrible, I know!

Right now I am trying to lose weight so I graze. So I guess it's about 5 mini meals I'm eating. Tonight I am going out to dinner with friends so I am having two mini meals/snacks and the dinner.

Grownups eat 3 meals a day. Since we don't eat dinner until around 8pm, I give the kids hearty after school snack, so they eat a total of 4x a day.

DH will sometimes try to sneak in a midnight "meal" unless I catch him :)

Same as Minnie. I eat one meal a day...usually out because I have no kitchen and it is too much trouble to cook, wash dishes and clean up, especially just for one person. But, I much prefer my own cooking, and would rather cook, even just for me.

I can't believe how many of you don't eat at regular intervals. Don't you get faint? I know I do, after 3-4 hours. (I always have a granola bar or some other such snack for when my blood sugar drops.)

I eat three meals a day, plus a snack in the afternoon (usually an apple or other fruit) and another in the evening.

Two meals...breakfast and supper. I start getting weak and shaky around 3 PM, so will have some peanutbutter/cheese crackers or a couple pieces of candy.

Three meals as DH is a diabetic and he has to eat regular and suppose to have 2 snacks, but he doesn't have those. Maybe some nuts or a 100 Calorie bar if his blood sugar is low.

My favorite of all favorites was fried chicken, or chicken fried steak, with milk gravy, and THEN serving leftovers with the chicken/steak heated in the gravy with biscuits for BREAKFAST!

I am killing myself thinking about this!

Light breakfast, light lunch unless I'm eating out, and full dinner. I try to avoid snacking because they pack on the pounds.

I eat when I'm hungry. LOL! Usually 3-4 times a day. I keep veggies, fruit and nuts handy.
