Comments (11)the long way should run east to west. The doors facing east to west. If its 8x10 I would say do what you can to get the most growing space possible. You will want it bigger. Make sure to have adequate ventilation too. You wouldn't think you would need it a whole lot here but even on 40 degree days it can easily get to 60 some in the greenhouse and when its 50 out and sunny 70+ degrees. As for storage, I would store things under shelves so you leave the shelves open for as many plants as you can fit in there. Maybe some hanging basket brackets or something so they don't take up shelf space too. Air flow too get a fan. Air flow makes plants move with in turn creates a stronger plant. I would think a wood heater would work fine although you might want to look into keeping it outside instead of in so you won't waste space on that too. Comments (12)I think both styles have their pro's and con's and it's a matter of personal taste. I personally have seen both and like them both. I know it's what we tend to do, but really it's not fair to say your choice is right and your husband's is wrong. The thing is, now that you have a new husband (and congrats on that), life is going to be all about compromises. What you need to do is get creative and find a compromise that you both like and can live with. Take a day and drive around some neighborhoods to see what others have done. I know the options may appear to be limited but seeing a visual may help you both to figure something out together or better yet, maybe one of you will see that the others choice may not be all that bad after all....See MoreCeiling fans and whole house fans in older MHs?
Comments (9)Hi wantoretire_did! Thank you so much for the suggestions! I've been meaning to get to HD and my local ACE for a walk-about. I'm going to go when I have a couple of hours and don't have to rush around. Just walk around with my trusty legal pad and take notes. Lighting is a big part of what I want to look at. I really appreciate your suggestion because that didn't even cross my mind! I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of the fixtures in my house are original, and at 37, they need to retire, lol! I just can't see paying some guy from CL for the rest of my life to come replace bulbs and wash the fixtures! I have electric burners, but I can see how that could easily happen with gas. I'm pretty much leaning against the ceiling fans now; cathyyg made very good points, and these seven ft. ceilings feel so low already, even at my height, that I fear the fans would just draw attention to them. We've got a good system with the fans now, and I don't think ceiling fans are as necessary as I thought they were when I first posted this. Yes! Annette Holbrook: I love the color you proposed and have it in a lot of accessories for kitchen (not pictured) and elsewhere in decor so thank you! As for the layout - the only part not working to the fullest is the dishwasher location when unloading dishes that need to go directly above the dishwasher. However, we did not want to change the footprint involving moving plumbing etc. The island was added to provide more counter and storage space which limits space when unloading dishes to the cabinets above the dishwasher. So I unload to the counter first, then close the dishwasher door to put dishes in that cabinet. Small price for the storage and counter space gained.
