Kitchen Table and Chairs- HELP- pics

Trying to pick out a kitchen table/chair set (for kiching NOT dining room).... i was looking at Canadel-- what style fits a traditional home??

1st question- Would you do oval or rectangular for the table itself - I want to do a pedestal or double pedestal for the table itself.

Here are a few from canadel that i found-

ALL of the chairs and tables would come in a Dark Brown to match our island- so dont let color dictate what you would pick-- just look at the style-

1- This is close to the color i would select- is this chair too french country for our kitchen?

This is our kitchen-- we also need bar stools- but trying to nail down the table first- leaning towards brown wood stools- backless with a brown leather top

2nd- again too french country?

Too boring ? Lol

NOw you see my dilema-- lol- HELP- which of these 5 do you like? Or put up pics of any other stlye i should consider.

I like the first one. I like chairs that are sturdy but not too heavy. Don't know about the shape. Would the table be positioned perpendicular to the island? Seems like either shape would be OK. Nice kitchen!

Have you sat in any of them? That would be the most important to me. Here's my Canadel set. I went with a stained chair an an upolstered seat because I think they are more comfortable.

Vamp- i went with your suggestion and just changed it a bit-- i went to michaels craft store-- we used hydrania flowers... potperie with color (browns/greens to match the kitchen) and a lighter weight glass bowl so i can move it when i need to (on the weekends for dinner)-- week days are more casual for meals! FYI Red cloth is there for temporary so the table doesnt get scratched-- i will be searching for a table runner that will go in its place... Gracie- table /chairs are by Bermex Sueb- wish i had seen your post- i love the idea of a bowl for napkins/pens etc (practical) ahhh well.... when i get tired of this i will use that idea... I am VERY happy with my flowers-- looks so warm.... Now i will be on the hunt for runner and placements- to be continued....

Thank you all for posting--they were all lovely and I love looking at them! It really helped me decide on color, style, etc. I'm impressed that they are all so clean!!! I just got off the phone and ordered a kitchen table and 6 chairs!!! I don't have a pic of the table but it is double pedestal table with an oval top. The size is 76 by 42 inches. They will custom match it to my perimeter cabinets. It is from a company called Zimmerman Chair and Old World Heirlooms. I also ordered 6 Nichols and Stone side chairs with a black, lightly distressed finish. I went on an ordered the chairs with a fabric bottom that will have the insured Guardian protection. I also know that I will most likely have to change the fabric on some of the chairs sooner than later, if the Guardian protection doesn't do a really good job. Here's a pic of the style of chair: I'm excited about the chairs because the backs mimic other design elements in my kitchem such as the harlequin backsplash and hutch leaded glass design. We'll see in about 8 weeks if I made the right decision--I am keeping my fingers crossed.

For this house, we "designed" a dining room table and chairs from a company called Canadel. We chose the tabletop, the pedestal, the finish, the chair seats and backs, etc, from their component pieces . . . and then it was custom made for us. We've absolutely loved it, had lots of compliments, and have been pleased with the way it's held up. Unfortunately, in the negotiations for the sale of the house, the buyers asked for it to be included with the house. Because it matches the peninsula barstools, it was a legit request, but when my DH said okay, I wasn't happy. However, the style won't really go with the new house, so it's probably for the best . . . We plan to go back to Canadel and do the whole process over again for the new house, for both the breakfast table and the dining room set. Here is a link that might be useful: Canadel

I agree with several posters that introducing some natural elements would be welcome...wood or rattan maybe. The room is great but a little cold...always a danger with the modern look (which I love.) FWIW, we have those CB2 chairs and they are fabulously comfortable, look kind of velvety and clean up like a dream (we have them in a chocolate color that they don't carry anymore.) We bought 6 as "placeholder" chairs and I think they're more likely to be "stay forever" chairs! Eventually we'll add some armchairs that coordinate, once we ditch the ikea kid-chairs. Good luck! Deb

I like #1 as well. #2 is definately too country IMO. Have you checked out Bassett Furniture, too? I just noticed you have some little ones & the custom dining that Bassett offers has a fantastic endurance finish on their table tops & it saved my table from being destroyed by my little ones. You can pick different tables, chairs, finishes, mixes of finishes, etc. Buy from NC & the price will be MUCH lower. I have a traditional kitchen & went with Bassett's Xback chair with upholstered seats.

I really like the shape of the first. It is very transitional too. Just a cool shape. Agree to make sure its comfy to sit on.

I love the first ones because I actually had/have those for kitchen chairs years ago...they're still doing their job in my "party" barn now...lol. The only diff is mine have an upholstered seat...VERY comfortable back and the style is so classic that it works with a myriad of styles. Hard to go wrong!

I like chair #1. I'd pair it with their boat-shaped table because I like how it would echo all the various sweeping arches throughout your gorgeous kitchen.

I have the same chairs as Marybeth1, but with arms. The cushioned seat is very comfortable.

thanks we are going to go look at #1 -- bermex and canadel both make similiar chairs--- i like the bermex b/c it has the bottom part with the rungs going across-- i dont think canadel has that-- but i think canadels brown matches better to my island- hmmm-- we'll we will have to go sit in the seats!! thanks

Hi, I love your posting because I'm going through the same thing! I posted pictures, etc and for some reason it must be lost in cyberspace because it never showed up on the forum. At any rate, I like the #2 chair. I don't think it's too country. It's cozy to me and I'm not a "country" fan, although I do like some French Country and some Old World. Can someone please tell me how to post a picture in my message. I can not figure it out. I definitely think you need to go darker on your table. I have been looking at tables for about two weeks now. We have decided on round, but now can't figure out which round to pick! I have my eye on the Kincaid Tuscano Round (but not sure if it's too big -58"). Then I saw the Paul Deen round in a tobacco color. The chairs are like your #2. They are so comfortable. My head is spinning. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll post them! Good Luck!

we went looking today and left discouraged-- trying to deside between rectangular or oval table? Thoughts?? Hubby didnt like boat

Ahem -- to be difficult (LOL!)

A vote for #5 and a rectanglar table.

Why #5? Because the cross-hatch of the back does match your distinct and lovely tile design behind the stove top!

And -- for the record -- tablecloths are FAR easier to find for a basic rectangle tableshape. Trust me! I now have an oval -- and I still use the old rectanglar tablecloths -- and oval ones are tough to find!

DH just made it crystal clear that he wants a rectangular table- i guess some things arent worth fighting for lol--

i think we both agree on chair one- though canadels version is a bit different as far as the bottom of the chair-- but similiar

Suzie . . . We had your #3 in the dining room of the lake house we sold when we moved to Tennessee. We had an oval table with double pedestal base; the top was stained and the base was antiqued white. The chairs had stained seats and all else was white. We absolutely LOVED those chairs! We could sit comfortably at the table for hours! We had 3 matching bar chairs as well, which we were leaving with the house. During negotiations our buyers asked for the table and chairs to stay as well . . . and my DH said okay. I could have killed him!!

We need a kitchen table and chairs for the new house, and we keep going back to that same chair, with a smaller, rectangular table this time. I suspect that's what we'll end up with -- mostly because they're so darned comfy!
