I would try to work in some natural elements so that the whole space does not seem so clinical. The DR you have has draperies and can work with something a bit more elegant yet still kitchen-y. A chair in a lighter wood than the flooring? A metal and wood chair? Vinyl covered chair? vintage painted funky looking chair?

Not the best examples but I like the white one below for the space.

Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention that those blinds/curtains are going to be changed ( not sure to what yet, but nothing too drastic) and I'm also planning on putting a area rug under the table to warm things up a bit. Thanks again.

I like the first one that you show but would get it in a color. Perhaps red or green. Or look for something similar in a wood.

Are you planning on ordering online? I would really consider trying something other than white; too much white might be overwhelming. I would "make the rounds" of some bricks and mortar stores and purchase a selection of chairs to try out in the space. Then you could see the effect of different colors/materials "in real life".

Just wanted to say I love the clean lines of your kitchen! My kitchen also incorporates lots and lots of white and love it! It feels so clean and open to me!

Also like the painting. Will that be staying in your dining room? On my monitor it has a splash of red/orange. Perhaps bringing in some of that color either in a future rug would infuse some color if you want to incorporate any. I did notice that chair #5 appears to come in a reddish color though!

If the dining room is open to the kitchen and you are trying to keep the palette neutral, I might stick with a chair with some black in it, to tie into your countertops and existing bar stools or white as you mentioned but something perhaps in an acrylic and easily cleaned? I know my dining room chairs have white suede but even that is actually easily cleaned (it came stain resistant) and I have two inside dogs, one of which loves to sleep in these chairs. No idea why! I simply wipe mine down with a damp slightly soapy white cloth then again with just a damp one.

Plus, just my idea but if i were going to commit to a pricey budget for chairs I might again stay away from color and do something that would offer longevity, and opt for color in a rug? I guess it's just the idea of which direction you want to take?

Nice kitchen!

I like the last one you posted because the curve offsets the angular lines of the kitchen and table while keeping the very contemporary feel. It also ties into the curve of the island top.

Will most likely be ordering online. There just isn't many brick and mortar shops in the area that carry a style we like. We've already ordered a few things, but have sent them back (mainly due to poor descriptions/photos). Always on the lookout though.

As far as a more bold colored chair, I just don't think it's a direction I want to go (wimp? haha). I'm fine with some accent colors here and there, but i think I'd like to keep the chairs more neutral to tie in with the kitchen and living room (dining area opens up to both). That's why I was thinking either black, white or grey? I'm worried something wood would either clash or get lost with the wood floors?

The painting will most like stay for now (glad you like it... I painted it a few years ago).

As far as rugs, I haven't looked too hard but here's some ideas I'm leaning towards. Again, pretty much neutral but I think they'll still add some warmth to the room.

I would think about a parson;s style chair with washable slipcovers in white, perhaps with a line of brushed nickel buttons added down the back of each slipcover. This one from IKEA would work, and you can buy more covers.

Check out vintage mid century chairs on ebay, CL, and mcm websellers, there are some interesting ones. How about shelby williams gazelle chairs in aluminum with seats and backs done in whatever color makes you happy?

So dramatic! I vote for wood as well, because it's not expected. I like the Ant chairs, myself. I've linked to Hive Modern, which is pricey, but there's other versions around.

I personally would use a silver chair, but the one you show has too high of a back.

Something lower, then put some color or pattern on the set cushion.

Oh my!!! I love that kitchen!!! Someone mentioned bringing in some natural elements-i think it will look fab!! I happen to love contemporary design too!! How about something like this chair that i have? A little black, with the steel-look, and just a hint of woodtone?? Please show us whatever you go for-that kitchen is gorgeous!!

Would you consider some of those "ghost" chairs, clear acrylic ones? when I saw the table, that's the first thing that came to mind. Not sure how great they are in terms of comfort/durability, but funky they would be.

I agree with several posters that introducing some natural elements would be welcome...wood or rattan maybe. The room is great but a little cold...always a danger with the modern look (which I love.)

FWIW, we have those CB2 chairs and they are fabulously comfortable, look kind of velvety and clean up like a dream (we have them in a chocolate color that they don't carry anymore.) We bought 6 as "placeholder" chairs and I think they're more likely to be "stay forever" chairs! Eventually we'll add some armchairs that coordinate, once we ditch the ikea kid-chairs.

Here's a couple of follow up pics in case anyone is interested. We did wind up getting an area rug because the legs/feet of the chairs were digging into the wood floors pretty good. Almost done out there... need some sort of better treatment for the sliding glass doors and the overhead light. Thanks
