I feel like Samson.

I had my hair cut at an upscale (for this area) salon yesterday. The stylist was very, very nice, and took the time to consult with me about my hair. She was careful to cut it in the way we had decided. The result looks something like Suze Orman meets Lesley Stahl.

Lesley is pictured below. My hair isn't quite as layered on top, and I'm not wearing it with her full bangs across my forehead. But the shape is pretty much the same. It's close to the cut I had in mind, and I think it's probably flattering, but I'm discovering that I have even more emotional issues with my hair than I thought I had.

Getting it cut this short brought back painful memories of the nuns cutting off my hair and perming it after my mom died. (I was ten years old and had been sent to boarding school.) Strange after all this time to be affected like that. It was quite unexpected.

It took me until today to realize why getting my hair cut had depressed me. I thought it might be all the new grey that had showed up under the lights of the salon, but I didn't think I'd react that strongly to grey hair.

Well, I'll either get past this and get used to the hair, or I can let it grow. I just hope I don't look too much like Suze Orman. :-)
