The table looks almost identical to mine - made in 1965. My MIL had bought the set new - it's a Thomasville, but the only place it's identified is in one of the drawers of the breakfront. Have you checked there? My chairs and breakfront are different than yours, but the lines of the table and the chair legs are almost exactly like yours. It appears to be the same pecany color as mine, too. I've been looking for a set with chairs in better condition than mine; mine have had a hard life (LOL!), but I haven't seen anything yet in as great a condition as yours. What a great bargain you got!

I've always had good luck on Craigslist, too. It's amazing what people are getting rid of. Nice tables!

BH - now at THAT price, why wouldn't you scoop up one of those tables for your coffee table? They look like they'd be perfect cut down. CP, that love seat is adorable! I just love the old one in my office, that started out rust and ivory big checks from 'Country Farm Furniture', I don't know how many years ago. The small size is perfect, and it looks to be the size of yours. Great job re-doing it! Update - my sister scoffed up the 'all leather' chair above faster than you can imagine. It's in her bedroom already where I hear it looks great. My mother wants the other one, but I told her I'd find her another chair for her bedroom! It'll be the payment for the next time she has to baby sit my dogs when I travel for work.

It looks like to me that it's rift sawn oak, which is very different than regular flat sawn oak. This table top is rift sawn and we clad the ends with walnut. I wanted the bottom of the tables dark, the top light and the ends natural unstained walnut. The chessboard we made as well, it's natural unstained walnut,(the dark squares as well as the ends) unstained maple,(the light squares) and unstained rift sawn oak on the ends, the ends we clad in walnut. This is what both table tops look like. We used walnut on the ends, rift sawn on the frame like edge, rift on the cross in the middle, and quartersawn oak in the 4 squares. The tops have no stain, just the BLO, linseed oil and varnish. I'll get you photos of our mantle that we recently completed a few weeks ago. It's natural walnut.
