Tylenol PM and insomnia

I have begun taking tylenol PM to induce sleep for me since I stopped taking my HRT. It seems to work very well and I was wondering if anyone has tried it for their wakeful menopausal nights. I don't feel too drowsy in the am, so I guess it will be okay for me. I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks Lou

I don't like drugs. Especially Tylenol, which wreaks havoc on your liver. I use L-Tryptophan with wonderful results! Note - this is not 5-HTP, which gives me terrible stomach pain - but real L-Tryptophan (it's still available; you just have to look for it). Also, I found that fixing my hormones (adrenals etc.) made a HUGE difference in my sleep -- my insomnia before that was realllllly bad: it got worse and worse over several years, to the point where I was only sleeping 15-30 minutes per night. Now I sleep 6 to 9 hours per night, usually waking up once to pee, sometimes not waking up at all -- it's so wonderful !

Well I will take the tylenol until next week when I speak with my doctor. She may want to put me on a natural progesterone cream.It is suppose to make you sleep better. I thought tht they banned L-Tryptophan. Is it back on the market? I can't believe that you were only sleeping 15-30 minutes. I sleep okay without the tylenol, but I keep waking every few hours and that makes me crazy since I was such a good sleeper when on HRT. What do you mean fixing your adrenals? Thanks Lou

O/T, but speaking of relocating wildlife: I went out back one day and my Beagle was barking at something on the ground. I walked over and nearly stepped right on a coiled up Rattlesnake. I backed away slowly and called animal control. A guy came out and was able to pick her up and take her to his truck. I turned my back for a second to shut the gate and heard a gunshot! He killed her in my front yard! I was so upset and asked him why?! He said our town policy is they relocate any snake except Rattlers. I was near tears, I never kill snakes. He claimed that Rattlers tend to go back to where they were found and that she was most likely laying eggs under our deck — and in her kind of woozy state, is why she didn’t strike at me. Well, he was right about the egg part. I had baby Rattlers come out from under the deck a couple of weeks later.

Actually a study was done to see how people sleep without the interruption of modern artificial lighting: In the 1990s, a sleep scientist named Thomas Wehr discovered that everyone sleeps biphasically when subjected to natural patterns of light and dark. In Wehr's well-known study, he subjected participants to 14 hours of darkness per night, and found that they gradually shifted to a routine of taking two hours to fall asleep, then sleeping in two four-hour phases separated by about an hour of wakefulnes - "a pattern that exactly matched Ekirch's historical findings. As I have gotten older I also tend to wake a few hours after I fall asleep. I'm awake for a while, then fall back asleep for a few hours. Hormonal Headaches??

I have been having hormonal related migraines for years and in recent months it has become almost unbearable. Like many of you, I found no relief from my doctor. All the prescription meds, worked for a short time but lost their effectiveness. About a month ago on this site I saw the suggestion of natural progesterone cream and I bought some that day. I will tell you that I haven't have a headache since! I think it's a miracle. I found the cream at a health food store and it was $15. Not only have my headaches ceased, I feel so much better. My mood is improved and my sex drive has returned. I'm only 45 and I have not started menopause yet so I didn't think I needed hormones but I guess I was wrong. I don't know if this will work for all of you, but I am a believer!

If you want the same effects as tylenol pm without the painkiller, take benedryl. It is the same ingredient as the "PM" part.

I can't remember where I read this (on another thread here?) but taking calcium at bedtime seems to help me have a better quality sleep. I may awake during the night but I am able to get easily back to sleep. Someone suggested perhaps its like drinking a warm glass milk at bedtime.
