How to Compose a Relaxing Bedroom
I'm an insomniac. Thus, I am always studying ways to bring on the sleep that don't include a prescription. Often when I am flipping through Houzz photos, I save photos of bedrooms that look like they will induce a long slumber. Here I'll show you some of my favorite examples and why they work. Other tips for avoiding insomnia include making sure your room is neat, trying not to use your bedroom for work (if you are lucky enough to have that much space), not drinking any coffee after 3 p.m., and the one I've learned most recently, do not, repeat, do NOT read Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" before trying to catch some Zzzzs.
This room has a wonderful sense of symmetry and a lack of distractions.
Other books not written by Cormac McCarthy may lull you to slumber.
A clean white space with a puffy duvet can feel like a luxury hotel. Also, that reading light is perfectly placed for pre-sleep literature. Again, Cormac McCarthy is not recommended. Stephen King, I cannot read anything you wrote right before bed either!
A high ceiling and lots of open space is good for air flow.
Keeping clutter and clothing stored where you can't see is is always a bonus.
A neutral palette and symmetry make this bed inviting.
This room feels like it's halfway exposed to the great outdoors. I find this relaxing, though people who hate the great outdoors may not.
A fireplace in a bedroom is a wonderfully cozy feature.
Having somewhere to relax and read other than your bed during the day is a great feature.
Soft linens and blankets that help you transform into a human burrito are always a good thing.
Soft curtains in a pleasing hue, a lovely portrait and a fireplace - this is a perfect spot!
I knew this girl in college who used to get into her single bed and fall aleep immediately even when it had half her wardrobe, some sneakers, and a Brother Word Processor on it. I never understood how that was possible. Having a place to dump your belongings beside you bed is a good idea. It keeps things cleaner and out of your line of vision.
This is cabin/cottage comfy at its bet. The room has a theme but the neutral colors keep it from being "theme-y."
White with a touch of glamour.
Soft, neat and neutral.
A fantasy canopy can bring you to a relaxing tropical place. In your head, that is.
Don't forget the fresh air!
