You don't need 'ammunition' talk to the store manager about this issue. Just pick up the phone or speak to him/her when you are in the store and ask them to give you some information on their new product. Come right out and ask about the product's legitimacy since you think it's home-canned. Believe me, no store want's their customers worried about food safety, and they usually bend over backward to put a damper on any question about it. I am also from Ohio and many of our markets carry specialty products now from smaller, local producers. I like that trend, myself. They are as you said, often jarred to look home canned, on purpose because it implies it's as good as home canned. If you are not convinced after talking to the manager, do as the previous poster says and call your health department. In my state, there are products truely home canned, but it requires a license to do it and they're inspected like any other facility.

Sultry Jasmine: I feel so lucky to have such a great Greenhouse close by, especially one that is family owned. I love going there & feeling like the dollars I spend stay in our community which, believe me, is a pretty chunk of change when it's all said and done. Everyone who's asked about fragrance: they are both fragrant, but it was hard to tell how much so yesterday because everything was so wet from all thera rain we had off & on. As some of these buds open I'll come back and comment about the fragrance. One thing I can tell about them though is that TPW's fragrance reminds me of Golden Celebration's fragrance.. Sort of fruity & crisp & very yummy. Olivia had more of a floral musk, but again hard to say how strong yet. Marlorena, this is something I've never come across before, "mona lavender", i don't think it is actually in the "lavender" plant family though. I know it is an annual plant in my zone & the sweet lady I met in the aisle where they were being displayed told me that she grew several of them in pots on her porch last summer, they only received indirect light & they bloomed all summer long. I snagged up 2 of them to put on my porch under the same conditions. They don't have a fragrance, but I love the flower color & the foliage, they feel very exotic. And like hens and chicks (Sempervivums), these are a very hardy, outdoor fleshy evergreen perennial. They are NOT a houseplant!

They are going to be florist roses, often only sold to commercial growers, unless they have a name on them, it is going to be tough to find out what they are. Even if you find out...say it is a David Austin florist rose, David Austin does NOT sell those to the public, only to growers. So many brides want a bush of the David Austin roses that they carried at their wedding....they can't buy it, but David Austin will suggest that they try a home garden varitiy that looks similar to what they carried at their wedding.
