Do You Cut Labels Out of .....

your clothes before wearing them?

Last nite I hand-washed a number of "tops" of various types that I had purchased either at regular or thrift shops (mostly the latter) in recent months. I also spent more than a little time cutting out the labels on the backs. The only ones I retained were labels that were sewed in on both sides. I find clothes labels bothersome when wearing & often just plain "itchey", Once purchased, I don't really need to be reminded of the fabric content nor how to wash a garment.

Now, of course, if I was wealthy enough to afford French courture label garments, needless to say, those would definitely stay, no question!

Not unless they're made with metallic thread woven into them--I have a reaction to those. Otherwise, I leave the labels. They're actually handy, since I often get dressed in the dark, and the labels are an easy way to figure front/back; rightside out/inside out.

Yeah, I do. Can't stand that itchy-scratchy feeling.
Glad a lot of clothes have started to print the label on.

Folks, I've ordered BLACK plastic labels for years-the only place to get them is from England, and only online through their site (they don't sell in retail outlets even in the UK!). I adore them, because black totally DISAPPEARS into your garden! They have tons of shapes and sizes, and loads of other products as well. A bit pricey,due to shipping from the UK, but not onerously so. It is unbelievably worth it, to ahve neat black labels unobtrusively residing amid the foliage. I think the progression goes like this: Phase 1: Brand new to hosta world. Know you should label, but still have general notes & tags, memory is still good and can keep track of them. Phase 2: Collection gets bigger & labeling becomes a necessity. You decide you're not in a place where you need to invest in quality labels, so you look for cost-effective DIY tags. After several years of trying the different DIY tags and tired of re-doing them, you start shopping around for proper supplies. Still not 100% convinced proper labeling is necessary but feels like there's a monkey on your back. Phase 3: Too many hostas to keep track of & you're old and forgetful now. Just suck it up, get proper long-lasting tags and can't believe it took you this long to do it. For all the $$ you put into the hostas, you might as well invest in the tools to maintain. gayle

I rip them all off immediately . . . except . . . the one on DH's pillow. Our pillows are the same type, and he likes to think that sometimes I mix them up when I make the bed, and that my giant head is prematurely flattening his pillow. It is only by leaving the tag on his pillow and tearing it off of mine that he will believe there is no such nefarious activity taking place. You should see it. He lays on the pillow and just "feels" it has been compromised in some way. So then he sits up and reaches in the case and feels for the tag. There is always a hint of disappointment there when he realizes his own tiny head is responsible for the flattening.

Sophie, I had someone replace the rubbery seal (weatherstripping) around the door, but that didn't seem to help. I am going to see what other types they sell. I react to all sorts of things. Perfume smells, fresh cut wood smell, fresh cut grass smells, the smell of people's deodorants, hairspray, laundry detergents.....all sorts of things. My lungs are hypersensitive, plus I get headaches and allergy symptoms, too.

I'm guessing (it's only a guess!) that French couture labels would be just as itchy as any. :-)

Yes, I remove most neck labels, as they drive me nuts.

It depends on whether or not it scratches my back. I wear a lot of t-shirts. Most times, the label is printed into the material so there's no scratching.

I often cut the neck tags off with a seam ripper -- it bugs me if they are scratchy.

Yes I do, and I like they way some manufacturers now print the label directly onto the fabric instead of sewing a label on.

Most of my neck ones are removed. I like that some labels are sewn into the side seam. Especially those that require "different" washing methods. Nanny

Are you gifted? I readthat gifted children often complain about labels in their clothes. I leave most of mine unless they bother me. My 10 yo cuts his out of everything.

I used to be perfectly fine with labels. Then my sis was visiting and we went shopping. After, she stood there in the living room and made her hubby cut the label out, cause it bothered her. Later, she took all the labels off.

For some reason all labels have bothered me since. I do cut ALL labels off now.

I am a little surprised that so many seem to like the printed on labels. I absolutely HATE those--maybe since, they're on the back--you haven't noticed, but a lot of times, they show through the fabric, and that just looks plain awful!
