Painting guest room - what direction to go?

I am in the first stages of deciding on a paint color for my guest room (size approx 10'X11'). I have a picture that will be hung over the bed that goes w/ the feel I want in the room (see link). It is in a whitewashed frame; size including the frame is 28"X32". For the bed, it has a white wicker headboard and no footboard. Bedding is a white matlesse (sp?) bedspread, and I am currently looking for a quilt/coverlet and shams to use (no luck so far in a price range I am comfortable with, ie inexpensive - LOL). Other than that, the room's really an empty slate. There's an ugly old chest of drawers in the room, but that will be heading out once I find some cute little chest to replace it. The end table is just one of those 3-legged round decorator tables w/ a white round cloth over it. If I can't find something to use for an end table, that may be staying but w/ a different cloth. Most inportantly, the carpet is a light beigish color and will be staying.

I'm trying to decide what way to go colorwise for the wall. I don't want to match the wall color to the picture, but I want to pick something that will coordinate but also be neutral enough if I decide to change the bedding and art down the line but not repaint. Originally I was leaning to a very pale grey-blue. However, I'm wondering if a light sand color would be better? If it matters flow wise, the adjacent flooring and paint in the hallway is a walnut laminate (Bruce American Home) and SW Nomadic Desert.

So, if you had to choose, would you go w/ a grey/blue, a light sand, or something else???? I am horrible at picking out this stuff. TIA!

What do you think about a quilt like the one in the link? Then once you have it, get out the paint charts and see what would be nice. I think a light blue would be lovely and serene. But you could also go with a very light creamy yellow (such as Ben Moore Wyndham Cream), etc.

I think either color, the sandy tan or blue gray would look very pretty with all the elements and the picture you've chosen.

Try CHOMP! on the wallpaper. Soak it with hot water and then apply the CHOMP, wait as directed and it should peel away. If not, drink a cold beer and call me in the morning.

Using the mirror over the mantel is not where I'm headed - that picture is about 15 years old! A friend on another board came up with a suggestion at the same time I was thinking of it myself. See the white mirror above? Notice how the bottom piece of trim extends out on 3 sides - ALMOST LIKE A SHELF !! That's what my piece needs - I think - and it should be pretty easy to add. Wha'd'ya think? At this point I'm leaning towards cleaning it up and not painting it - there is one other small piece that I'd like to use in the room with the similar wood tones so I think they'll relate well. syllabus that's a really interesting idea - I'm going to have to flip a photo to get a visual. The bookcase you're seeing in the reflection is black - must be the sun glare looking blue. But that's one of the pieces up for repainting so it may not stay black.

Olychick, shelters charge fees to take unwanted pets because even if they do get donations, etc., the cost to shelter animals is astronomical. Donations can't possibly cover it all. Food, vaccinations, staff, vet fees, surgeries, medications, supplies, heating and air conditioning-- it all has to be paid for in some way. It makes me scratch my head when people come into our shelter and say that they want to adopt a cat, but they don't think they should be paying a fee. How do they think we can survive this way? And if you can't afford to pay an adoption fee, what happens when the animal gets sick and has to go to the vet? We get tons of people turning in their animals because they got them for "free," but took them to the vet for the first time, freaked out because the services cost money and didn't want to pay for medical treatment. I don't think the $50 to take in an unwanted pet is a large fee. It's pretty reasonable. Our shelter charges $75. If the person can't pay the $75, we ask for a donation that they feel they can pay. If it is a person who has found a cat, we don't charge them. Therefore, we get plenty of liars that claim they "found" a cat and want to turn it in, when in reality they are turning in their own pets. We get people leaving their cats in carriers at our front door when we are closed and catch them on video running away. They've left dogs tied up in the bushes in our back yard. At least they are bringing them to us rather than letting them off on the side of a highway (which is also a frequent thing). But honestly, asking people to pay a fee for taking a pet in, giving it shots and medical care, spaying/neutering it (usually these people don't feel like paying for that either) is more than fair.

What direction should pine wood flooring go?

I believe wood floors are supposed to run perpendicular to the floor joists. It looks like that’s what they are doing and notated in the pictures? Im actually about to run lvp that looks like wood through my entire main floor. I plan to run it all the same direction and so that it goes long ways down the hallway and my kitchen, which is the longest room. I’m keeping it all the same direction so that it can flow without transitions.The only room that it will run short ways is my narrow bathroom. But through most of my rooms it will be perpendicular to most doorways. I never really thought about which direction it ran in regards to the doorway. Most of my rooms are a rectangle shape, so I thought it was more important that the planks went with the length of the room. At least it seems like your rooms are more square so that may not matter as much.

I might wait until I find the rest of the bedding before I decide on a paint color. I think that might be easier. My fave color is blue, so I would probably lean towards the grey, blue color in a bedroom. Our kitchen, family room are SW Nomadic Desert, halls, foyer are SW Softer Tan. but I paint the bedrooms whatever I like, cause everything else is neutral. don't think you could go wrong with either color.

I think a blue/gray would look fabulous with this picture, it's almost begging for a beachy, serene feel. I also have beige carpet which has to stay for now and feel like a beige, cream, or sandy color on the wall would be too, well I guess boring for lack of a better word.

I would check out Ben Moore Palladian Blue, Gossamer Blue or Woodlawn Blue. All really pretty colors.

Ooh, I like that quilt, especially the reverse side! I had looked on O before but didn't see that one. Womder if it's new???

I picke dup some chips at Lowes the other day. I will head over to SW and BM later this week. Thanks!

A guest bedroom is an opportunity to go a little stronger with color than you would with a room used every day. The picture lends itself to some shade of blue, not light sand, IMO.

I would suggest SW Believable Buff and go with blue accents on your white bedding. Very calming. Lovely picture! Overstock has some nice sets at reasonable prices. I have been happy with my purchases with them. I have ordered bedding there in the past.
