I'm using reed diffusers from Pier One, in the First Rain fragrance. I don't react well to most artificial scents, but I find First Rain quite pleasant.

I use Fragrance lamps which actually kill bacteria in the air while they scent. I always dilute the lamp oils with 91% rubbing alcohol to make them less strong and more economical.

This one is my favorite so far. Put it down & forget it. Set & refresh by febreze. It will last about a month or more. I also like reed diffusers.

Opening the windows. I really dislike artificial scents and most of them make me headachey anyway.

I also like Pier One reed diffusers. My favorite was Sierra, but it was discontinued. They cost a little more, but the fragrance seems to last a little longer.

I am with colleen on this one. Are you sure that everyone that comes in your front door wants an artificial scent. So many people I know just can't take them. It has reached a point that I have to just stay away from a few friends homes because of the scents. One of our daughters is notorious for them too.

I don't care for them either. Some of the classrooms at my school use them, and the smell makes me want to gag.

I open the windows at least once a day to air the house out...unless it's too cold.

Once in a while someone gives me a reed diffuser as a gift, but I really can't smell them unless I'm standing right next to them, and even then sometimes there is no noticeable scent. One I did like was Pier 1's seasonal pumpkin spice scent but, again, it was barely noticeable.

No scents for me! They make me sneeze; my sinuses swell up; my nose runs; I get a headache. "Clean" is just fine.

An open window is my favourite air freshener.

Just reading oldgardener's post, and it's almost exactly what I was going to post..... I have a difusser and can't smell it.

I like burning candles and prefer the scents of Christmas over anything else: cinnamon, spices, apples, spruce and pine.

Scents--air fresheners, candles, sprays, etc, give me migraines.

I, too, avoid places where I know there will be a high concentration of chemical scents.

However, if you want a nicely scented house that probably won't bother anyone, try simmering some spices and/or citrus peels in a bit of water on the range. I like a combination of orange peel, cinnamon, allspice, cloves. I often save citrus peels in the freezer so I have them when I want them.

My favorite air freshener is free- sunshine and fresh air. Just open a window.

I have scent allergies so have to be very careful and also do have problems at times when visiting places that do have scents and really have problems around people that pour on the perfume, in fact have had to use my inhaler and leave in a full blown asthma attack.

I use the lampe berger, which is very pure and has been used in hospitals to clean the air, there are now many imitations and you have to be careful with those because the solution/liquid for them is NOT the same as the original true ones and will put out smoke and in some cases offensive scent which is not a pure scent. How does a Lampe Berger work?

I have been using them for many years and my family in Louisiana has been using them for many many years, they have been very well known and popular in Louisiana for a long time and now are becoming more well known in general.
I only use the real lampe berger liquid in them and only the real burning stone.

A clean house smells clean. I read that several years ago in Better Homes & Gardens, and it has stuck with me. If your house is clean, it will have a pleasant "smell" all by itself.

I don't think BH&G was thinking of 150-year-old houses inhabited by dogs and cats when they said that.

And while I agree that fresh air smells best, no way am I going to open a window in winter.

Clean works for me.

No scents for me. They give me a pulsating headache. The only products I have ever cleaned with are vinegar and baking soda.

LOL, Alisande - my house is over 110 years old and is inhabited by people, cats and a turtle. :)

And I've had visitors - who don't own cats - tell me my house smells great. :)

Because it's CLEAN.

I prefer NOTHING, but if I absolutely HAD to pick a fragrance, there's one called "clean linen" that isn't TOO bad. Still prefer NONE.

from cooking, or dogs or whatever, I might burn some
candles for a bit, or if I have to, a spray of some
sort that doesn't have much smell.

Don't do candles anymore - too much soot and it damages the walls.

I like melting tarts in a warmer - no soot and the scent is usually stronger because they can put more oil in them (no contact with a flame). I occasionally use oil warmers as well.

I've used a Lampe Berger for years to remove really strong odors. I agree with Cajun - the knockoffs smoke a lot and damage the stone. I tried them for many years because they were cheaper, but went back to the original after ruining a few wicks. Love the Vanilla Gourmet.

I also like plug ins. Used to use BBW Wallflowers until a year ago when they changed their formula. Can't smell them now. I'm experimenting with Febreze which is doing a good job, but I miss the scents from BBW.

Wish I could use reed diffusers, but with pets in the house I can't risk someone chewing on them or tipping them over.

Home Depot has fresheners that you put in with tge filter of your house fan (if you have one). They're a little strong in smaller homes, but I turn on my whole house fan and get a burst of of fragrant air throughout the house.
Fabreeze makes a plug-in air freshener that is fragrance free. I use it in my closet and my laundry room (where the litter box is). It works really well. It has a fan and large filter but isn't efficient in large open spaces where there is too much air to move.

Favorite T&T air freshener?

Homemade bread or chocolate chip cookies! Never fails! LOL
