Darn Cat! (and assorted other vents--LOL)

Isn't it always the way?

I've had a very, very long week--most of last week in the hospital, operated on Thursday, 'sprung' on Friday. Then we had a previously scheduled open house Sunday. Spent most of the weekend spiffing and baking so the house looked and smelled great. Thought I'd get to rest Monday, but got a call first thing that one of the couples from the open house wanted to come back for a second look. Then my niece and her husband, in from Arizona wanted to get together for dinner (had a LOVELY time in a local pub--and I haven't seen her in over 2 years). So more cleaning, baking, running around.

Here comes the cat part....I promise. Got another call that someone wants to see the house tonight. Well, it's in pretty good shape, so even though DH is away at the country house today, taking care of some 'stuff', thought maybe I'd get to relax a bit. Oh, no--when I went upstairs to change and make the bed????? The Persian, VERY-long-haired cat had left me hairball on the quilt. So yes, I'm running up and down the basement stairs, doing a load of wash that wasn't on the agenda!

Oh, well, the cat's adorable, poor baby couldn't help it (wish she'd had better timing, though--LOL). We're delighted this agent has been getting feet through the door (in about 6 weeks, we've had about SEVEN TIMES more lookers than we did in 6 months with the last agent!)... so guess it's all worth it, right?

Maybe tomorrow, I'll just sit around all day and veg.

Sorry about your cat. Sometimes mine has good aim and goes for a solid (washable) flooor. But not always! Continued Good Luck with your new realtor.

gotta love your post...my poor jack is going blind and is refusing the cat box, so now have him sequestered, lol...and ds2 are talking about dropping by saturday for dh's bday...told him only for a second, as i havn't quite finished scrubbing...my at did the same thing only it was a white eyelet coverlet and never did get the stain out so had to dump it, sigh...

take it easy...just don't forget the the drop of vanilla on the lamp...easier than baking! lol...

Claire, I am not sure I've ever heard the term cute associated with starlings . . . ;>) Jane, that series of robin photos is absolutely stunning. I am always interested in the content of photos, but this month there have been a bunch of really lovely photos as far as composition and clarity. I'll submit some photos which are a bit more basic than artistic. I'm not sure how Claire gets such stunning turkey photos. Ours are very wily, and if I open a window or door to take a photo, they jog off in the opposite direction to the nearest shelter. So mine are taken from inside the house, and often through a combination of screen and glass. During the recent snowstorm, our local flock scooted across the road and down into the cornfield. I managed to catch a couple of photos before they disappeared into the evergreens to find shelter. They were moving much faster than usual; definitely looked unhappy about the weather. I just received the most WONDERFUL box from Miss Sue! It was so big, it took 2 kids to carry it. :) And MERCY, I just about fell out of my chair when I saw how much it cost to mail! Prices are getting ridiculous!! I tried to keep track of everything as I unwrapped them, but I had 4 little helpers (the girls helped me...the boys couldn't have cared less- they know they're going to be recruited to help plant later on! LoL!) so I didn't get everything written down. But everything looks great, nothing is wilted! Which was SO surprising, considering the heat! I know there were 2 mini roses, red & blue salvia, many daylilies, 6 succulents, dianthus, lantana, rosemary & lavender. The rosemary & lavender made the box smell SOOOO good! If I've forgotten to mention anything, please forgive me! Thank you SO MUCH, Miss Sue! You outdid yourself with a WONDERFUL box, and I absolutely LOVE everything!

Good question HH :). As to jewels....I found a pretty little pearl broach (antique) in a townhouse we purchased a few years ago. I still have it...they were drug dealers who were thrown out by the PO and they and the other six people who roomed in the place trashed an already trashed place. It took a six person cleaning crew a week to clean it up including all of the broken glass (because why not break the windows before you go right?). I don't care if it was the druggies grandmothers broach...karma left it in the place and I wasn't hunting down drug dealers. So that's a good and bad story. My other townhouse is more fun. We purchased within a few hours of listing despite the place being overpriced because I wrote the contract at asking price or bank approved appraised value, which ever was the lesser knowing that it would appraise about fifty grand lower than our offer. That man thought he was so smart lol he had his brother do the appraisal :). But it was not a huge town...people knew of the relationship so the bank rejected the appraisal and did another, coming in exactly where I said it would. He tried to get out if the contract so we sued for breach...ugly ugly but we won of course. So out if bitterness I guess he removed the horrific chandelier from the dining room which he said his wife carried on her lap on the plane from a castle in Hungary. I don't know why she bothered because you can buy them all day long at lows for about 22 bucks but whatever....it saved the price of removing it from our costs lol. They also left the new fridge and washer and dryer (not addressed in the contract either way). They didn't have time to take them because we had forced closing before they started packing the day prior to moving (they thought that we would give up). They came back two months later saying their kids wanted them for their new house so they would go ahead and take them now. I laughed and suggested they try a better storage facility and closed the door. Those appliances didn't come close to our legal fees and weren't going anywhere. Then there is this house....we purchased lock, stock and barrel. Not only did they bake a quiche and leave it in the fridge with juice, coffee and creamer but they left a dozen roses in a silver vase that belonged to the original owner on the dining room table with two glasses, a cheese plate and a bottle of wine. They also left a toy on the table for our son and a few others were hidden around the house for him. The house was spotless with freshly made beds and fully stocked bathrooms. If I ever buy a house again I'm going to pay someone to do that for me again lol. It was heaven!!!!

LOL, I have mastered the art of picking the cat up off the carpet mid-heave and depositing her on the wood floor where it is easier to clean.

An empty toilet paper or paper towel roll is excellent for getting puke off the carpet. Press it down about an inch from the 'deposit' and slowly slide everything into the inside of the roll. Toss and wipe up any extra.

We always seem to have lots of TP rolls so they might as well be used for something. If you do not have a 'ready supply' you could cut the paper towel roll in half and use for two separate occasions.

One of our cats likes to overeat, drink a bunch of water and THEN throw up. I'm so glad we don't have any carpet, but he still manages to hit a rug or quilt.

My mother is going to call the cat food manufacturer and ask them if they can make the cat food a different color, so the stains won't be so bad at her house. Ha, I told her good luck with THAT!

All that and you just got home from the hospital? Amazing!!!! If you keep this up, you will wind up back in the hospital. Take it easy please!

As to aiming? Would you believe MOST of our floors are either tile or polyeurathaned wood? But did the cat aim for one of those? of course not. Well, the quilt is back on the bed, nice and clean, and it doesn't look as if she's made any more 'deposits' since. And I've managed to pretty much take it easy otherwise.

Thanks for the concern, Georgysmom--I told my dr. when he released me, I'd be cleaning the house and he didn't say I couldn't. Sometimes, you just have no other choice but to do what needs doing, right?

And hey--it looks as if it's been worth it.

As of about 2 hours ago? WE HAVE AN OFFER!!!! Not quite what we want to sell for, but close enough that I think we may be able to come to an agreement! And we still have those other lookers coming out tonight. (cross your fingers for a bidding war to break out--LOL)

... they often give us a "hairy", too?

Azzalea - I'm so happy for you! Not about cleaning up after the cat or about having surgery and cleaning the house over and over again - but you got an offer! That's tremendous.

I do hope it all works out. Keep us posted. And hopefully you can take tomorrow off.

Azzalea...just a piece of advice. I was once told by a real estate agent that generally your first offer is the best offer. I didn't believe it at first, but after that, it became my experience. Sometimes you turn down the first offer because you think gee the house hasn't been on the market that long and this is my first offer. What if I wait. Then a year later you wind up selling for much less. Just saying. Good luck.

Georgy--yes, we've heard that, too. We sat down with our agent tonight, and worked out what we feel is a very fair (to all) counter offer, and have our fingers crossed that potential buyers will thing so, too. We'll see.
