..........for Moe.

Eileen knows that I don't like Jams or Jellies so she sent 4 of her jams to Moe. White Nectarine Jam, Plum Nectarine Jam, Light Plum Jam and Cardamom Plum Jam. How lucky is he!!

Look at the beautiful labels that she designed for each of the jams. Beautiful.

Thank you Eileen. And Moe asked me to thank you too. He can't wait until breakfast tomorrow. Toast and jam. Wonder which one he will try first?

Fruitnut, The rest of the branches are sending out leaf buds. They are just delayed a little bit. It didn't abort any flower buds. I had to thin down from about 100 fruitlets to 10-15. Based on what I have seen on mine I don't think it is lack of chill. My winter is so warm that most trees suffer from lack of chill to some degree. Pluots that are rated 400 hours do well for me with half of that. Very productive, eventually leafing out normally. The pluerry is behaving like my pluots that receive lack of chill. Apricots and cherries are another story. My dapple dandy is a perfect example. It is rated at 4-500 hours but usually gets about half of that. It starts by leafing out and blooming sporadically in the spring. With a new fruit tree a nebulous designation such as "low chill" works well enough for me. If someone has success with it locally, so much the better. Precision with regard to chill hours would be more informational than applicable. Too much emphasis will have you drilling down on the method of measurement, etc. And fails to account for micro-climates and other variables. It kind of becomes a never ending discussion that runs in a loop. Tops the tastings for 3 yrs?? It doesn't even show up in DWN tastings. I assume that's what they're talking about. I just looked thru those a week ago and it's not there, top or bottom. Way over hyped IMO. 20 grams and 24 brix with average flavor. That's what I got in 2013. I've had Flavor Kings at 200 grams and 10 times the flavor. If anyone can find this on a taste test report I'll stand corrected. PS: It could be at the bottom as the link I provided only shows top 10 each year. Many of you evidently missed the sarcasm and irony in my question. Technically, canines are as much an omnivore as a carnivore. Of course dogs need/eat more than just meat. And dogs can be taught to eat odd things---I once had a dog that would eat almost anything I tossed to her---including onion pieces. I do not, and have not for many years, allowed my dogs to have treats. I do change their diet now and then, but getting treats is not something dogs get in the wild. Now, I train my dogs for good behavior, not to do tricks. Treat training for tricks is an accepted way to achieve the desired result. Good behavior is not an option, it is a requirement and requirements get no treats. And please do not berate me about being harsh to my dogs---they are happy, healthy dogs who obey because they are pack members---just as it would be in the wild. They just get much better living conditions than if they were in the wild. And better food and care. And both were once very undog like animals, in great danger of being euthanized because of their condition or behavior. All done with no treats, no harsh physical punishment, and no harsh training methods. Just requiring them to be the dogs they were born to be when in the same social environment as a pack situation. And---they are two entirely two distinct different temperments. One is super aggressive, the other the most submissive dog I ever saw. Now they are well adjusted, healthy, and quite happy. All with no treats. ;-)

I'm glad Moe likes them! I realize they suit my taste for less sweet, more tart jams. It's been fun making them. I have peach puree ready to make into jam in the freezer when I have time and peach-nectarine-ginger butter cooking in the crock pot now. It smells really good!
