fed up!

I am 53, had a hysterectomy 5 years back, kept my ovaries, went onto the eostradiol patch and ended up sticking 3 full strength patches on at a time to gain some type of relief from my dry vaginal and urinary tract infections. This has been going on for years and hasn;t really helped with that and the creams have had to be used on most occasions too. The patches are sticky, messy and most of all have been very embarrassing when my partners (I am single) keep asking why they are stuck all over my lower abdomen! So I got a script for the low dose oral contraceptive pill called microgynon 20 ED and have started with that. So far so good but am worried about taking it as I currently smoke (plan to give up though). I can't live my life getting infections all the time and feeling like a patch work quilt any more! Does any one else do this? If so has it helped them more than say the patch did?
