At our favorite Mexican restaurant a couple of weeks ago. The cutest little couple came in with their own containers to pack their leftovers in. I mentioned to the waitress what a great idea that was. She said they come in every single week. 52 weeks x 2 containers = 104 styrofoam containers a year not going in the landfill!

I can't stand eating (or drinking) from styrofoam anyway, I should start keeping a tupperware container in the car for leftovers.

I always have many Ziplock bags in the car. They take less room.

I made myself a quilted insulated zip top bag. It will hold 4 2-cup ziplock square containers and a bottle of wine. It lives in the car, and we take it into restaurants all the time.

We usually go out for lunch. We never eat the entire meal, but we never want to order one meal and split it either. We usually order a bottle of wine, because the bottle price is cheaper than the per glass price, and it gives us a way to try new things.

Melissa, Don't you worry a bit about getting to the post office in a hurry. I hope Lili is starting to feel better. It is so sad to see them sick when they are so little. You know they can't understand why they feel bad. I'm still waiting to hear from Maryanne. If I don't hear from her by the end of the week I will just mail some doggie things because from what I can remember she got a dog for her granddaughter. Didn't Maryanne just start a new job? I get so confused as to what I've read and who it was about. LOL As for my eye, I went to the specialist again last week on Friday. I think it is coming along like it should. I just had some huge floaters to deal with after the vitreous detached so I am still dealing with them - at least smaller versions of them, now. You are right, Shirley, it is scarey to have something threaten our eyesight. I asked more questions when I saw the doctor and apparently when the vitreous detaches from the retina like this they do not reattach it... that threw me for a loop... I said, you mean you just leave it floating around in there! He said, "yes." My next appointment is in 3 weeks. I must admit I have had various things over the years and become familiar with some conditions, but I know very little about eye problems. Have a good week, everyone. Jeanne

Chicken and rice is a great way to help settle tummies. I suggest feeding a cup and a half of chicken and rice in the Am and the same in the pm, later you will want to up the amount you feed your dog - but for now until you pick a food, that should be good. Pumpkin is great stuff, not too much tho. I feed my dog 2 cups of mixed food twice a day, he is a free feeder and supplements his regular food when he gets really hungry like after we have been out doing alot of running around, he likes cookies (biscuits - dog bones) and likes natural balance meat sticks, which we cut up once a week and toss in an area the dogs frequent when they are extra hungry - they often let the meat stick dry out to the consistency of jerky before eating it...go figure. They are all healthy and happy. You can give the dog all of the chicken except cooked bones, they should eat more than just white meat...Good luck with your new pup

It's easy - buying a sack of Portland cement is the hard part - weighs 96 lbs. I had to unload mine by scooping it into buckets. A bag of play sand comes in 25 lbs. One part Portland to three parts sand, mix well and add water to thick peanut butter consistency. That's it.

Carol, very nice rose blooms! YES 90's-97 degrees is hot for your zone Carol... Nanadoll, really enjoyed your photos! What are hops Nanadoll??? Very humid here... Makes the mid to upper 80's feel like its in the 100's...lol Our Julia Child is out front (side) where people can see her so I want those 3 roses in that bed to look there best... MOTH has not disappointed...Plum Perfect needs more time to grow so still being avaluated... Julia Child is now 70% engulfed with Blackspot and dropping leaves at a fast rate....JC also dies way back here after winter.....SO most likely I'll replace JC with a Sparkle and Shine rose and see how that goes...Our neighbor planted a 3-5 gallon Sparkle and Shine in June its already as big as our Julia and it has no BS...SO might just try it next year... Carefree Celebration today... ES with a white streak...lol

I need to proofread better, LOL. My post above makes it sound like we're out to lunch daily, but it's just 2 or 3 times a month.

I do love my leftovers carrier!

Good idea about taking your own container.
I try to do everything I can to protect the Earth.
I have a worm farm or two.
I compost everything I can.
I use my own bags when shopping. (Environsax.)
I plan my errands to use as little gasoline as I can.
I grow vegetables and herbs.

mary c do you have the pattern and instructions for your quilted take out bag? Where can I find it? Think that is a great idea.

My DD & I have lunch and spend the day shopping every Monday. We also keep small cooler in the car for leftovers.

Sorry Murphy, I didn't use a pattern.

It's just a standard style zip top tote bag with a double layer of Thinsulate between the lining and outer bag fabric.

I just played around with scraps until I got the size I wanted.

mary, thanks anyway. That is usually what I do...play around until I get what I want. thought you may have found something "new" out there :). I don't go out very often but like your idea very much....bring an insulated container for leftovers. Will put this idea on my long to do list...
