Oh, my gosh. How awful! My heart breaks for that family!

Oh, how horrible. Can't imagine their grief.

What a terrible accident. I feel so sad for all of those involved - it is heart breaking. I pray that all the children recover quickly but losing their sister like that will be with them forever. When I first heard the news on TV last night I thought it happened somewhere in the northern part of the state but when the reporter said Burlington County I had to look it up. I didn't realize that it was so close.

So tragic. So many lives forever changed.

What do you want to bet the dump truck driver was either on the phone or texting?

Sad to loose any children. Here in ND we lost at least 2 teens, one was driving, age 15, ran a stop sign and the other in another accident someone else was driving. Way too many happing here due to variouse reasons.
Just keeping these children in our prayers.

Pugeder--not sure why you're assuming that? The dump truck, from all the news reports I've heard, had the right of way over the bus. Dump truck had a yellow blinker, school bus had a red blinker, so the bus SHOULD have yielded to the truck.

Triplet girls. How very sad. I heard the one critical is better but not the remaining one. Tragedy beyond belief.

There was another motor vehicle accident today at the same corner.
NTSB is investigating.

Guess I just presumed it was the dump truck drivers fault since he the busfrom behind..

"According to investigators, the dump truck was driving on Route 528 when it struck the rear of the school bus on the driver side. The impact sent the bus into a nearby utility pole. The dump truck ended up going off the road and onto a grassy patch where it left deep tire marks."

I, too, assumed the truck hit the bus from behind when I read that. But it could have hit the side of the bus at the rear if they were at right angles to each other.

In any case, it's a horrible accident. That poor family. The article mentioned that the bus was equipped with seat belts but it wasn't known how many students were using them. I would think they'd make some effort to enforce that....what's the good of seat belts if they're not used?

The other driver MUST yield to or stop for a school bus with red blinker lights or stop sign. Major fine if you don't! MAJOR no no!!!

That is the signal they are unloading or loading children.

Just trying to save some peeps from a ticket. DH drove school bus for 7 years and nothing put fear into him like idiots passing or going around him when he had his red lights flashing! Not sure if it was stupidity or carelessness or what.

The bus did not have it's red blinker lights on, and it was not stopped.
The traffic sign at the intersection was blinking red for the rd the bus was on, and the dump truck had a blinking yellow on the traffic signal.

When I used to drive a school bus, I threatened to get some balloons, half fill them with water/used motor oil? and drop them on the windshield of anyone passing me when I was stopped with the blinkers on.

Major fines for that ... if, infrequently, there happens to be a police person nearby ...

There but for the Grace of God go I... My prayers will be with all involved as they sort out and heal from this accidents.. Everyone's life has been changed in a blink of an eye. Regardless of who was at fault.

The way I understand..4 way stop... two sides have flashing red..stop and proceed while two sides have yellow flashing lights..proceed with caution...
The bus had already stopped and had started to go thru the intersection when the dump truck hit the drivers side rear end of the school bus...So dump truck driver failed to yield the right of way to the school bus.

Cars running stop signs are a major problem. People are in too big of a hurry to have to stop and wait for a stupid yellow school bus..My time is more important than to have to wait a few minutes while a child crosses the street to either their house or to the bus.
