Dark Green v. Light Green Granite

I have definitely decided on a green granite to go with the honey stained cherry cabinets, but do I go light or dark. The floor is a light stone laminate very close in color to the cabinets, but lighter. I found a granite today called Namib and close in lightness to costa esmeralda and I also like Ocean Green which is much darker. Both look great with cherry, but it's the finished job I am trying to visualize. Do I need the darker green to have a contrast. The Namib is really a pretty (sort of olive and grey) stone. H e l p!

From the pictures I was able to find, the Namib looks beautiful and IMHO would look nice with the Cherry cabinets!

Wow that is beautiful granite!!

What is the look you are trying to go for? Do you want a contrast? Which one do you want to focus on - cabinets, granite, floor?

Posibly too much light. Corn plants are med. -low light plants. Even in your filtered light , the tropics are bright! Not sure on this! maybe someone else will "chime in".

Here are two graphics of my proposed kitchen with the idea of using honed green granite on the perimeter, cherry butcher block on the island with a soapstone farmhouse prep sink. earn44 - I am very impressed w Fireclay. Not only is the tile beautiful, but their customer service has been great so far, cheap samples, fast shipping, and personal emails to ask about my project. I am adjusting my pricing expectations and thinking that $35/sq ft isn't so bad! Thanks everyone for talking me out of the shapes, that saves $10/sq ft! Speaking of Fireclay, I'm back on board w Kelp potentially, I've been reading through many of the Craftsman kitchen threads on here and lunarlab's kitchen thread. The Kelp pic she posted on this thread is one of the many in her reveal thread, and shows the color quite differently. Hope you don't mind me posting this lunarlab, it is gorgeous! pippiep - I read through your threads on tile, I feel like you've saved me so much work and samples! I like the Leaf Peeper tile, but the Basil is just so much more vibrant and appealing to me. Checked out the Vermeere at Complete Tile, but paying for shipping is stopping me from ordering samples. Does anyone else balk at these silly expenses, that are so small in the scheme of things! More thoughts later ... thanks everyone for your ideas and feedback!

Here's someone else's ocean green (honed) granite. Just imagining what honey stained cherry cabinets look like... I think the ocean green might be richer and better with the other colors you describe. I also don't know what your floor looks like but from the sound of it, if you go light with the granite it might not be strong enough. I also think the ocean green looks like a longer lasting classic. Just one opinion.

We have Coast Green, which is more green than Costa Esmerelda (which has a grayish-ness to it often), but not dark. A definite medium green. We have medium stained cherry cabinets (sort of the color cherry turns after several years). The floors are white oak. Here's a link to a picture. Another plus, the stuff seems to be totally stain and etch proof. NOTHING has marked or stained this stuff in 3 years.

Thanks everyone. Coast Green, Costa Esmerelda and Namib are all pretty much in the light category and absolutely beautiful. If I had white or dark cabinets I would leap for any of those three without hesitation. That's my problem--I love all three but don't think the overall finished picture will have the contrast that I think I need. I guess I am talking myself into Ocean Green. It does offer a nice contrast which I think is more what I am after than a pretty granite. I guess I want both for the $$$$. BigDogLover -- you said exactly what I am thinking. Thanks that helps a lot.

You might want to check out this web site. Has tons of showroom photo's with every imaginable cabinet and counter you can imagine. It was a great help to me when I was deciding on a counter.
