Q on rice cooker

I bought an aroma from walmart as, since I've gotten the induction, rice seems to be a real pain to cook...have to watch like a hawk so it doesn't boil over and then on simmer, it seems to take forever to cook. So I've tried the rice cooker a couple of times on the brown rice setting and it never seems to switch to warm...so instead of getting something I can set and forget, I'm still stuck paying attention to the darn thing...I feel like I might as go back to the stove-top pot. Am I doing something wrong? Is the thing broken or is this just how they are? Or did I cheap out too much and need to spend $100+ to cook rice?
