To the person who can find me some tall, white, table lamps for my console behind my sofa. I currently have another thread going in this forum "painting adjacent rooms" and these white lamps will go in gray room.

I like these but I can't find them anywhere and they are probably a million dollars too much for me.

So, tall and white. Anybody?

I found some at a consignment shop in Williamsburg VA last wkend $165 each - all marble. Not as curvy tho. But you only said tall and white :O)

I don't know how tall you are looking for, but I have this lamp from Lamps Plus and just ordered a second for our bedroom. They are available in several different shapes, as you can see under coordinating items.

I've found Weeks, Star, and JP roses at all the big box stores at discount prices. It has more to do with timing than anything else. The easy answer to your original question is that big box stores place market caps on all the items that they sell. All too often this means that they won't sell something unless it is cheap enough to buy from a wholesaler where the big box stores can make a 25-100% markup and still fall within the economical tastes of their customer demographic. They will also often under price similar items with little to no markup if there is competition down the road. There philosophy is that they can hold their marketing breath longer than the small operation down the street until it breaks the mom and pop shops. This is an aggressive tactic which has made companies owned by the likes of the Waltons (Wal-Mart) so successful. Once the competition has been run out of business they change their market line-up in order to rationalize the newer higher prices. We consumers are at the heart of the problem when we only want to pay $5 for a rose that cost significantly more to grow, graft, fertilize, water, spray, yank out of the ground, hose down and trim, tag, deliver, and pot up at a local nursery. From experience I can tell you that most roses sell, at wholesale price (bare root), around 4-9 dollars depending on how new or rare the variety is (demand) and popularity (supply). All growers will sell weaker plants in a grab-bag style at a lower price ($2-$3) with no tags. These are the roses that most big box stores sell to the public as "Promo" rose bushes. The mark-up is low, but it gets customers in to buy complement items that sell at much higher mark-ups (such as potting soil, sprays, fertilizer, etc.). Now, I'm all for defending and supporting the local mom and pop shops, but let's take a look at what they do...There are two m&p nurseries by my house that I frequent. One will sell me a Nelson's Florida rose bush at $25-$30 dollars while the other sells it to me me for $16. Both have employees and owners that don't have much more of a clue on how to keep a rose healthy (or what a healthy rose looks like, for all that matter) and both basically sell the same product. I know that the rose wholesales for around $10 and must be ordered in sets of five with a minimum total order purchase of around 100 rose bushes. In this case I will go out of my way and first see what the m&p nursery, that sells roses for $16 (a whole $6 mark-up), is selling before I ever spend any of my money at the m&p nursery that is selling the same roses for $25-$30 (a $15-$20 markup (that's more than 100%!)). The m&p nursery pays their employees the same salary, maybe even less, as the big box stores. They also are selling you on a false idea that what they sell is any better than what you can find at big box stores (of course you have to know for yourself what you are buying and weigh its value for the $ for yourself based on your experiences). So why support a business that keeps quality roses out of some people's economical reach? I apologize for this disertation-esque posting, but the us-agianst-them mentality gets old, especially when no one is to blame more than we consumers that demand everything to be much cheaper than its equal value in other countries, but, alas, that only leads to another discussion that I'll hold for someone elses thread, when it becomes available. We've selected our hood (a 42" wide Best by Broan WP29 with an 1100 cfm in-line blower) and are trying to determine the best depth (24" vs. 27") and mounting height. It will be installed over a 36" Wolf rangetop with charbroiler. Our GC is recommending mounting 30" above the countertops for best exhaust efficiency, but at that height I think the 27" deep hood and my head would become too well acquainted (I'm 6'0", or at least I used to be before gravity started catching up with me). One of the reasons we chose that particular hood is that the most likely "contact area" is angled in such a way that striking it would distribute the impact over the largest possible area. That assumes, of course, that the hood's "crease" is above the danger zone. The height decision is also influenced by the 6" and 12" soffit chimneys available from Broan. Our GC would prefer that we use the 12", as doing so would make the transition to the duct to the outside world easier for them (and less expensive for us). Comments and suggestions? Ah - but you excel in those areas. Just remember that if you stumble across a fabric that fits your needs it can be crafted into a duvet, coverlet or even a full bedspread. While king size sheets are the easiest due to their overall size even regular cloth cut from a bolt of fabric can be used. We had a quilted coverlet made from a Schumacher fabric based on a historic pattern from the Stencil House at the Shelbourne Museum. The coverlet was sewn with 3 layers - the top layer was the stencil pattern, then a layer of batting and the bottom was a solid that complemented the background color of the stencil. The entire coverlet was then machine quilted outlining the rose and leaf design of the fabric. Since I think you're looking for a solid color duvet 'm sure you'll find exactly the right bed covering without having to resort to having one mad. But it can be done if necessary.

Ok, Palimpest, thanks for making me drool. The 11K does not include the shades, so forget it. That's the deal breaker for me. LOL! So, to answer your question, under 11,000 dollars is my price range. : ) Actually, I'm looking for under 200 dollars a lamp. But, man I'd love to go shopping with you. The ebay finds were great, but I still think too short. I actually loved the Kirby antiques lamps, but again, too high for me. So, for taste alone, I give you the gold star.

Graywings, I'm with you 100%. Yes! I would definitely spray paint. Just can't find what I want. I would actually like a square shade or squarish shade, too....

Teacats, still looking through those at bellacor. Thanks. Saw one and it said that if I wanted 2, they'd sell one on clearance and one full price. Hmmm...

I'm looking for super tall, as I just bought these and don't think they are tall enough and I don't think the shiny chrome is how I want to go either, although I was convinced it was . This is why you still see the plastic on the shades..........

You might be able to bump these up to 40 with the right harp and shade. For point of reference my lamps are 49" on low tables in a 10' ceilinged room and they still look big.

White paint could cover a lot 8-l

I vote you try some thrift stores, goodwill .. places like that. Go with an open mind, find lamps that have a pleasing shape to them and then spray white. The money you save on the lamps, will buy awesome shades.

I bought these at an auction not long ago, $125.00 for the pair!

And kinmarie- I think the height of the chrome ones is fine but I agree that white would be nicer than the chrome.

Palimpest, I like. I just have to use my imagination. Very visual, I have trouble imagining things in a state other than what they are at the moment.
