How big is yours and is it big enough?
Comments (56)phyl - about the quality? about the acronym? Sorry -- how do I know what? :) About the quality -- well, I know it the same way everyone else knows it -- you see it in someone's house and you think "hey, that looks pretty fine" and then you look closer. You see it in a store and you think - hey, that looks great, only ... then you look closer. You see what these things look like in houses with time. I see them online and living in a massive urban importing-area (LA), I even at one point noticed an online place that had a "warehouse/showroom" close-ish to me (40 min drive) so I went to look at the stuff. And it looks neat there in person, too. But the quality isn't great. There's massive amounts of wasted space between drawers, and pressboard, and staples -- all the stuff we all know about regarding kitchen cabinets. It's all the same-old. And sometimes we're OK with lesser quality; heck we most of us will die before even these lower-quality cabinets deteriorate anyway. But truthfully, my maquilladora-hand/custom-made kitchen cabinets make me smile every day ..... oh wait, I'm suddenly remembering what you meant in the "how do you know" department!! Didn't I say ask me about the faucet-sink mismatch!? lol. Well --- OK, so you're not wanting diatribe #47 about why I'm completely non-plussed about bathroom cabinetry and am still living with a non-functional bathroom after 2 years .... it's the faucet story you want! :) OK - I bought a really nice sideboard used to make into a vanity for my kids' bathroom and wanted, per their instructions, for the sink to be "pretty" -- so I got a really pretty sink bowl and then went to look for faucets to match its 'prettiness' with the help of I thought a really good small-time favorite-of-the-trades plumbing shop locally, run by a real live person-who-knows-everything. She steered me to these "perfect" faucets that were really pretty and matched the sink perfectly only ... somehow she managed to forget to think about the throw, or whatever the correct word is, of that faucet. It's way too close to the back edge of the sink. It's been a constant headache ever since. Constant. I'm so annoyed! This is supposed to have been her specialty and honestly, it's not rocket science. What else is there to think about if you're selling faucets to go with a sink? *I* didn't know about it because I'd never done this before! But I won't make that same mistake again and you shouldn't either. Make sure the faucet's spout comes out far enough to be close-ish to the sink's drain hole. :) OK, so that's what you wanted to know, right? sigh.... There is not one single solitary day for two years now I have not rued the choice of those faucets! Beware!!!!...See MoreMiele W3033 OK for washing King-sized sheets/duvet covers?
Comments (10)It seems there is some confusion. The IntelliQ W4000 series machines are 8 kilo machines. Where as the 24" width (European-size) machines come in sizes between 5 and 6 kilos (depends on models/product offerings in your country). The W3033 is a 5.5 kilo machine (smaller than the 6 kilo Professional "Little Giant".) In comparing the 6 kilo machines versus the 8 kilo machines, the difference in capacity has to due with the fact that the 8 kilo machines have a tilted drum. The physical attributes affect the physics of it in operational terms so you can't "stuff" the machine like you can the try horizontal-axis 5-6 kilo machines. Doing so (and I have found out from experience) will either cause damage to your clothes or machine. The users manuals states to leave about 4 inches of space from the top, so in essence that 8 kilo machine become more like a 6 even though the drum size is smaller. To cut to the chase though, I have washed in a 5 kilo Miele 1 King size fitted sheet, 1 King size flat sheet, and 4 king sized pillow cases with great results and room to spare a towel or extra pillow cases. So to answer your question, you CAN wash your king duvet, sheet and pillow cases in the smallest of the machines. I dried the load in two separate drying to minimize wrinkling....See MoreMom keeps asking why the vet never....
Comments (6)Animals show pain by not doing things they used to do, like not being able to get up from lying down without help, not jumping, not playing, not running around like usual. They very rarely whine or cry except with acute pain, like being hit by a car. Even then, they aren't crying by the time we see them in the ER. Pain meds are great for older animals. Often people don't realize that their pet is in pain, and that pain is the reason that they don't do the things they used to do. It is more difficult to assess when the animal also has vision or hearing troubles, because that also makes the animal not want to move around as much as before. Pain meds are not without risk. Pets who will be on NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) need to have a complete chemistry panel and CBC prior to starting the medication to be sure the liver and kidneys in particular are able to metabolize the drugs. Then they must be monitored on a regular basis. The owners must watch for signs of problems, such as decreased appetite, vomiting, increased lethargy. But most animals do great on NSAIDs. Without knowing the cause of the dogs pain, NSAIDs are a good first choice. For a GSD sometimes their pain can be neurologic, like with degenerative myelopathy or cadua equina syndrome. In these cases, NSAIDs alone may not be enough. My own rottie K'Ehleyr has a terrible back, and recently had trouble getting up from lying down and some other neurologic problems. I thought for sure she'd need back surgery or be paralyzed. But after 2 MRIs, they couldn't find a specific cause for her trouble, and we just switched out one of her pain meds for another. She was on rimadyl (an NSAID) and tramadol (a synthetic opioid) for over a year with good results. But since we thought that she was having neurologic trouble, we switched her tramadol for gabopentin, which originally was used as an anti-seizure drug but it turns out to be good for controlling neurologic pain. She's doing MUCH better now. She has also been on glucosamine HCL 1500mg, chondroitin sulfate 1200mg, duralactin, fish oil, and vitamin E since I got her 2 years ago. She was a wreck when I got her, but between all that and significant weight loss (she was also fat, which didn't help) she is doing really well. In short, there are a lot of options for pain control in dogs. Sometimes it takes a little time working out which options are best. I would definitely try some sort of pain management on a dog who was having the symptoms you described. Could make a big difference in the quality of life for the dog. I know GSDs who have lived to 16, so 13 is old, but not unheard of....See MoreCompact Miele Rocks a King Duvet Cover
Comments (36)@Enduring: I've been doing some reading on other threads (both here and at AW) about the Water+ settings and the Maximum Water Level settings. These appear to have the same effects in both your machine and in the w48xx machines. From what I have gathered, the "Water+ / Water+ & Addt'l rinse" setting modifies what function your Sensitive button serves when activated. Have you been activating Sensitive with your last few cycles? If not, do so and report back. This could be why it doesn't seem like anything has changed! The "Maximum Water Level" setting activates Level III rinsing in all but the custom cycles (so, Normal, Wrinkle Free, MasterCare, etc.). I believe this is the setting Roc had activated by her Miele tech this week....See MoreBumblebeez SC Zone 7
