How Big is Big Enough?
Comments (15)I agree with Anney. Decide which veggies you most enjoy eating fresh. Or do you want to grow ALL your summer vegetables? Or do you want to grow enough to store stuff for the winter? I get lots of pleasure from going to the basement in the winter to get potatoes, onions, garlic, and pumpkins that I grew. They last until March and make your winter meals more special. Other veggies are good for storage too. Garlic and onions don't take up much garden space, can be planted around other things and fill up odd spots and edges, and are easy to grow and store. Potatoes are a great home crop because they're easy to grow, fun to dig up, have a big range of flavors, and taste MUCH better than most store bought ones. In one bed, 2.5' x 20', I grow enough spinach for 4 people for the month it's in season. Some plants take little space (most leafy greens, root vegetables) while others (corn) take a lot for what they produce. I think 4x8 is small, unless you want to start on a small scale and only grow a few vegetables the first year. Then again, you can augment that space with a few potted tomatoes or something that take more room. I'd take a trip to a good bookstore and peruse their garden selection. There'll be books with different philosophies and techniques, and hopefully you'll get excited by at least one. That'll inspire you! This site is also great, and look at some you might not already have, like organic gardening, composting, soil building, etc. Happy gardening!...See MoreIs your 30" wide sink big enough?
Comments (15)Realism: I am truly sorry if my question annoyed you. I think you may have misunderstood it. Just to clarify, I am not asking anyone here to tell me what size sink I need, nor did I ask for anyone to tell me what is the right sink. Perhaps I was not as cohesive of a writer in my question as I should have been, so let me explain my position a little more clearly. Right now I have a double bowl sink and do not have a dishwasher. In the new kitchen I will have a prep sink (for the first time in my life) , a dishwasher and a single bowl sink. It is not that I cannot look at a yardstick and see what 24" looks like or make a decision on what size sink is right for me. However, seeing a flat, one dimension object (yardstick) is not always as enlightening as seeing the actual object. As I said, I have not been able to view the 30" sink in person and I really like to see something in real life before purchasing. Since there is not a showroom within a decent radius for me to view this sink, I was hoping to garner any pertinent info from the helpful people who post on this site. So my objective was to simply be as informed as possible before making that decision. If you read MrsPete's post which followed yours, you will see she has a gift for understanding the question and a graciousness in her style of response. I see you are new to this site. I believe you will find that 99 and 9/10ths of the people who post here are very helpful in a most courteous and constructive way. Thank you MrsPete. You have hit the nail on the head! Thank you for your insight and very helpful response! Sparklingwater: The 30" Whitehaven is just over 24" in width in internal dimensions. The K6486 has the shorter apron and the outside measurements are 29 1/2" I am considering this size but with the wider apron....See MoreHow big are your bathroom towel bars and how did you dress them?
Comments (25)The towels look good hanging on the hooks, but it might help to see the actual hooks you're using. Teacats, I love the pictures in your bathroom. This mornings Gordman's ad shows the pictures of the ladies in dresses. The bathroom we're redoing is the main bath for the house and it seems to be on the formal side. I never know how rooms are going to end up they just seem to evolve during the remodeling process. It's really fun to see all these beautiful bathrooms, though. I love seeing all the different design styles!...See MoreWormwood, how big can it get?, how big is yours?
Comments (2)Move the lavender! Wormwood gets to about 1 metre high but can spread several metres. It has a reputation as a bad companion because it inhibits the growth of other plants nearby. Yours is a lovely specimen!...See Morehobokenkitchen
