If this was your bathroom....how would you do the layout?
Comments (11)Thanks for reaffirming what we had pretty much decided on already. I still have some concerns with the vanity area. It can be upto 94" in length. Hubby is worried it will look like a runway and end up being a major drop zone. (Current vanity is 84" in length so I don't think the additional 10" will make that much difference.) Any suggestions on configuration for the vanity. Again I am hampered a bit by the window that is 30" in from the wall. It has always made the first sink feel crowded (plus the door swung in to whoever was standing there). Would there be enough room to have a make up vanity approx 24" between the two sinks? I'd appreciate any guidance....See MoreBathroom Display Towels--Need Your Examples
Comments (37)Did anyone grow up with *fingertip towels* that were set out for guests? I think this sort of custom was quite common decades ago. Fingertip towels were common as wedding gifts. They were rectangular and smallish, made of linen usually. They would have cutwork or embroidery and often had monograms. They all must have been tucked away and "saved" never being used because tons of them, either vintage or antique, are listed for sale as new, never used, still with tags on, ect. Or they were set out and guests were afraid to use them. My Mom had oodles of guest fingertip towels she set out when people came over. As I recall the guests never used them. They just hung there and were put away again. One of the many sellers specializing in fingertip towels: http://gypsyrosalie.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=15 Here is a link that might be useful: Vintage Fingertip Towels...See MoreHow long did your remodel take (and you had no bathroom)
Comments (12)My GC said 4-5 weeks, so my big dog and I moved into a friend's condo with her and her 2 cats. 2 weeks in, they were clearly nowhere close and they provided a schedule showing not done with the bathroom for 8 weeks! My sweet friend said no problem although the animals were driving us both crazy. Then we got to 6 weeks, it was pushed out more, and I said I need to get back in my house. At that point there was a tub with running water, and a toilet within a few days. Several times they had to remove the toilet for tiling or other work, so I used their porta potty outside, then eventually bought this camping toilet to use at night. I showered at the gym. My project included reframing most of the bathroom walls and relocating the fixtures, in conjunction with a kitchen remodel. Much more than simple bathroom remodel. If I did it over, I would have insisted on seeing their schedule before starting work. I think the GC gave me the initial estimate without actually crunching the numbers, and I think they could have done more to prioritize the bathroom completion first (as opposed to the kitchen work, which was lower priority)....See MoreHow often do you clean your bathrooms/kitchen?
Comments (20)I wash my bathtub out every time I use it. I scrub the toilet every couple of days. I scrub the bathroom sinks and counters once a week. I clean the kitchen nightly. DH cooks too but cleans up after himself so no problem there. I fill up the dishwasher after dinner and he empties it after he's made our breakfast. All the floors get done once every 7 to 10 days. I do sweep/wet mop the bathroom and kitchen floors more frequently as needed. We do laundry the minute our laundry basket is full. DHS close user changes outfit twice in a day so usually we have a load by the end of the second day. Our office is messy fairly often. That is the one place that we allow for things to stay where they are until we're finished a project. Right now it's paperwork time again. But as soon as it is finished we put everything away and give the room a good scrub down. That's probably every two weeks. I keep my desk well dusted in the interim. DH not so much. Living room and spare room are vacuumed and dusted every 2 weeks along with the rest of the house. I have actually been able to keep up this routine for quite a while. Sometimes I look around in a semi shock when I realize I can keep up with my housework and work too. Before it would have been difficult just to sit up. Most of us have to really experiment based on our lifestyles home size and everybody's way of living in order to get a good cleaning schedule. If one can do it clean as you go is a good place to start. I've noticed that people keeping the house successfully tidy engage children at a very young age in taking part in the cleaning process. According to their abilities of course. I was semi-successful with this but my children are still very clean and tidy despite me....See Morestu2900
