Two years ago, I had ceramic put in the main bath, along with the utility area, back entry, kitchen, and dining area. I love it and can't think of anything that I would like that would come close to it. It is so functional and easy to clean, and will last and look great forever.

We have whatever the current equivalent of linoleum is. Inexpensive, easy to lay and if you get tired of it, cheap and easy to replace.

In my previous apartment, I paid to have new flooring put in. What was there, was the ugly green and beige asbestos tile.

It's a cushioned flooring, like linoleum. A grey pattern in large squares that looked like ceramic tile. Easy on the feet....cushion vs hard (I had a choice). Had it laid in both bathrooms, hallway and kitchen.

Me, personally, I wouldn't like ceramic in the kitchen. Mom and Step-father had ceramic put in the hall and kitchen and it's far too hard on my (and Mom's) back to stand on for periods of time.

I have seen some of the new cork floors that are beautiful and would be great in a bathroom, or bamboo.
I too love porcelain ceramic tiles, we have a lot of it here, I want to change the tile they put in the master bath, kitchen, laundry, powder room and have it all the same plus replace the carpet in the den with the tile too. They must have put 6-7 different tile colors through out this house. If I could find more of the original that is in one large area I would go with it through out, but not much chance of accidentally finding more. I wish they would stamp the back of each tile with information to be able to locate it for sale if you want more. We found several extra tiles in the garage, I was hoping there was something to lead to more but apparently not. I saved one of the sections of the box our tile came in with all that information when we did the Dallas house and provided it to the new owner. Wish everyone did that.

I definitely would not consider laminate since water could be an issue.

We had cork in our PA house kitchen and LOVED it. So comfortable to stand on and easy to keep clean. We put it in our downstairs bathroom in the IL house and loved it there too. I would use it again in a heartbeat!

I have tile...not the shiny ceramic but a rough textured tile and I love it...Doesn't show soil and so easy to clean. I imagine it might be hard on the feet and legs for some but so far, it hasn't bothered me...I have it in my entry way, my dining room and the kitchen......

yes and if you fall it hurts a lot worse on tile than on carpet I know this well from experience!!

I absolutely hate shiny tile and why on earth anyone would put shiny slick tile in areas that can get wet like bath or kitchen is beyond me, has to be a man that chose the tile. I had shiny slick tile in my Dallas house and this house. HATE it. I have picked out the tile I want to use it is a slate like tile but not real slate, I love real slate but it is too uneven and crumbly, I would kill my self on it.
It is called canyon slate we found it at Lowes, this is it in some other persons house.(I would not use that bright white grout I like my grout to blend in with the tile color)

some of the tiles have a lot of greens it has a lot of various muted color so will go with a lot. It is not shiny or slick at all. Of course by the time we get around to doing this it probably won't exist LOL.

we have a combo of tile around the toilet and shower stall, but burber by the sinks, storage, going into the office...

upstairs we used click together lam in a pattern mocking tile...you do have to take into consideration, i use the walkin shower down and dh used the tub combo up..we don't have to worry about heavy traffic in either bath unless it's company...

I have 8" square dull tiles with dark grout in my powder room. A cinch to clean. I have the original 1840 wood floors in the upstairs bath(which was part of a bedroom cut up in the 20s) It's also easy to clean with Murphy's oil soap.

No tile here. Too easy to slip and too cold. We have linoleum and it too can be slippery.

My bathroom floors are all tile with colored grout. They are beautiful, but not really my ideal. They are cold in winter and I hate cleaning grout. When I picked out the tile, I did my best to get something that would not show dirt and wasn't super slick. I picked out a tile with mottled colors with some bands of dirt colors mixed in. I had it laid in a brick pattern.

We have to be ready to move if needed for dh's job so we made the best choices we could for resale value of the house when we built. In this neighborhood, tile is a must in the bathrooms. If you don't need to move in the next 5-10 years, I'd go with linoleum. It is certainly easy to clean and can look very nice.

When DH and I were shopping for tile for our master bathroom we fell in love with the Canyon Slate at Lowes. We loved the muted colors and thought it would be lending to a lot of paint color options. It has been installed for almost 2 years now and has turned into the biggest thorn in my side.

Canyon Slate shows every little water spot which I never would have guessed. Worse than that this tile has some sparkles added to it that you can't see when your are inside Lowes. When the lights are on in the bathroom the tile looks like its been subjected to a bunch of hairspray/aersol products. It's maddening.

You may want to purchase a good many pieces (they can be returned)and lay out in your area for a few days to see how your lighting works with or against it. If I can save one person from the grief I'll gladly do it at the risk of bursting the seams out of your decision. I am so sorry if that's the case. Just trying to help.

oh wow thank you for that info!! I had noticed some tiny tiny specks of sparkle like mica which is I am sure what they were trying to simulate, I only have one piece and it did not look that noticeable but you are right if there is a large area it could become much more noticeable. We looked at the display board they have set up in the store but it is up high and you don't see it as you would on the floor. I was wanting to cover a LOT of area so I am glad you told me this. Before we make any decision I will pick up a box and lay it out in my room. I thought surely nothing would show up on that tile too!
I dearly loved the tile I had installed in my Dallas house but we had to have it imported from Italy because it was no longer available in the US, cost way too much but I was in love, trying to speak to people in Italy was not fun. If I could have that tile again I would in a minute.

It is so important to have something you love it will be with you for a long time.

I hate the tile in my bathrooms but nothing will convince DH to change it so I'm stuck. It's the little 4.5 inch square tiles - they're a royal pain.

I redid the hall bathroom to look old fashioned wihout changing too much. Did white cabinets and drawers, a speckled Caesar stone in browns and blue grey. White fabric shower curtain and simple window curtain. Light blue paint. And the floor is vinyl planks that look like planks of wood. Each plank is a separate piece of wood-grained looking vinyl, and it stands up well to the family and young grandsons. And it is warm on bare feet.

buy a few tiles. Take them home and lay them out. If you don't like the look, take them back for a refund.
