Who's Super Bowl partying and whats on the menu? I'll be

working 12p - 5p today. No partying here.

We're having a "special" SB party...everyone will get a chance to help finish clearing the 2 ft. of snow driveway out before the game.
Tom was out yesterday with the snow blower, but it's too deep for a man his age to handle by himself. Will let the younger ones finish the job.

I am fixing beef and pork barbecue sandwiches, baked beans, fried potatoes and cole slaw plus a rich chocolate cake. This sounds great, Sue! Just the sort of meal DH (and I) would really like. We really like to make BBQ pulled pork in the slow cooker. Yum! He and our guys will also want hot wings, jalapeno poppers, chili-cheese dip with Tostitos Scoops, potato skins, etc, throughout the game. We'll be together with family next Sunday -- some pulling for the Saints, some pulling for the Colts. It ought to be verrry interrrresting, LOL. As for myself, I have mixed feelings -- I was a huge fan of Archie Manning eons ago when he was such a great QB for the then-perennially losing Saints (aka the "Aints" back then). I usually pull for his sons, both Peyton and Eli. I'd be in a real fix if the Colts and Giants met in the Super Bowl, LOL. Now Peyton, who grew up in Cajun country (as did several other Colts players), is going up against Archie's old team! It's almost surreal.

Superbowl is not the big deal here, that it is in the States. Annie- I agree about Mick... and Steven Tyler and Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney. You guys are billionaires - hang it up already! That being said, I am going to try the following recipe from Bon Appetit and like a lot of the reviews, I will sub coconut milk for the milk in the recipe. Jane Fragrant Beef Curry with Rice yield: Makes 6 servings Bon Appetit ingredients 2 pounds well-trimmed boneless beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch pieces 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 large onions, sliced 6 whole cloves 2 large garlic cloves, chopped 2 cinnamon sticks 1 bay leaf 1/4 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper 1 1/2 cups whole milk 3 large tomatoes, quartered 3 tablespoons Major Grey chutney 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 2 tablespoons minced peeled fresh ginger 1 1/2 tablespoons curry powder 1/2 teaspoon salt Hot cooked rice preparation Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in heavy large pot over high heat. Working in batches, add beef to pot and brown on all sides, about 7 minutes per batch. Using slotted spoon, transfer to plate. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil in same pot over medium-high heat. Add onions; saute until tender and brown, about 7 minutes. Return beef to pot. Add cloves, garlic, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf and dried red pepper to pot; stir 1 minute. Stir in milk, tomatoes, chutney, lemon juice, ginger, curry powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt and bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until beef is tender, stirring occasionally, about 2 hours. Uncover; increase heat to medium. Boil stew until juices are slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. It appears that whenever I plan a party, something happens. There was a four day blackout one time I planned two big parties. Good thing I have a generator. We had a blast! My cousin calls it the "Super Food Bowl -- and, oh yeah, there's a football game, too." Everything was delicious! Thanks to melonpocky's excellent queso explanation, I made the best white queso dip ever -- using Queso Chihuahua and a queso from Aldi that was simply called Quesadilla. I did make the Hot Milk Cake and that will now be my go-to yellow cake recipe. Amazingly moist and delicious. Also made the Crisp Salted Oatmeal White Chocolate Cookies from Smitten Kitchen -- wow, huge hit! I'll post the recipe below. I really wanted to make Eileen's empanadas, but couldn't find the discos anywhere close and didn't want to mess around with making dough -- so, we'll have those for one of our next parties. All in all, a good time. Oh, and I thought the commercials this year were mostly...blah. A few good ones, but overall disappointing and rather high on the creepy scale. Crispy Salted Oatmeal White Chocolate Cookies Adapted from CookÂs Illustrated The original recipe didnÂt have white chocolate in it, but it really works wonderfully in here. Even if youÂre a dark chocolate fan. Watch out, use the good stuff and this may even convert you. 1 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon table salt 14 tablespoons (1 3/4 sticks) unsalted butter, slightly softened 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats 6 ounces good-quality white chocolate bar, chopped (not "white chocolate" chips; theyÂre almost always artificial. I am adamant about this.) 1/2 teapoon flaky sea salt (like Maldon or fleur de sel) (for sprinkling on top) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or Silpat. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and table salt in a medium bowl. 2. Beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Scrape down bowl with rubber spatula, then add egg and vanilla and beat until incorporated. Scrape down bowl again. Add flour mixture gradually and mix until just incorporated and smooth. Gradually add oats and white chocolate and mix until well incorporated. 3. Divide dough into 24 equal portions, each about 2 tablespoons. Roll between palms into balls, then place on lined baking sheets about 2 1/2 inches apart. Using fingertips, gently press down each ball to about 3/4-inch thickness. 4. Sprinkle a flake or two of sea salt on each cookie 5. Bake until cookies are deep golden brown, about 13 to 16 minutes, rotating baking sheet halfway through. Transfer baking sheet to wire rack to cool.

That would be me....if we get up the driveway. I'm bringing wings. Everyone brings a snack and the host and hostess do the main course. She's having coq au vin and beef bourguinonne. How good does that sound! We'd better get up that driveway!!! Dottie

We are! Can't wait...love the commercials!

DH already has a pork butt on the smoker. The meat is so good we stand at our island doing "quality control" while he's shredding it! There will be coleslaw and dill pickle chips to make pulled pork sandwiches.

Pizza dough is already done, but I still have to go pick up veggies and cheese for that.

I'm also making meatballs, egg rolls and a salsa dip to serve with tortilla chips.

My sb party will be at a small town gym watching my dd's Basketball game. Why the other coach picked SB night, no one knows. It's only a scrimage game too. Guess I'll be cheering our team on tonight. I really, really want some chicken wings this evening!!

No party here. Just having dinner at noon. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, left over chicken and noodles, some kind of vegetable, rolls, cole slaw, apple salad, and raspberry pie and fresh iced tea. Amber and Mike will join us. The others don't want to get out in the snow. I might put a frozen pizza in the oven for this evening. I imagine son in law Mike will come and watch the game with my husband. I will be in my room doing whatever, just check the score from time to time.

A couple of the kids and their mates are coming...Wings have been ordered, and lots of snacks. I have all the usual, cheese, crackers, chips, dips, pizza and I'm doing little homemade hot pockets ...and the main course is sandwiches...all nice and easy...The guys are going to watch the games the three ladies are going to Tuesday mornig.

Family party here, only we won't be watching the SB. I have rented the first two Harry Potter movies and we'll be having family movie night. But we will be having SB type foods like loaded nachos and homemade carmel popcorn. DH is thinking about doing some wings on the grill, but he makes them so screaming hot, he'll probably be the only one that can actually eat them.

Do men do this on purpose? ;)

Our 22 year old son is having a party here today. He still lives at home. Curt has to work 4-12pm. We have a 50" TV, that should be used he said! Anyway he is so nervous about the food, wants to make sure there is a nice variety and plenty of it. It is so cute to listen to him plan a party. Should have about 8-10 young men over today. I love it!!

I sure am missing our annual Superbowl down at my sister's house, but her DH has to have surgery (heart valve replacement) soon so, understandably, she wasn't up for it.

But DHarry and I are having SB food anyway. We're having wings with celery and blue cheese ranch dressing, loaded potato skins, bacon-wrapped water chestnuts and a sausage, cream cheese and Rotel tomato dip with tortilla chips. So very not good for us! Maybe I'll put out some broccoli to dip in the dressing and sausage dip to allieve my guilty conscience.

Just a family party here with all the snacks! We've been snowed in this weekend (over 2 FEET of snow!!) and everyone is off tomorrow, so it should be fun! We worked up an appetite shovelling and sledding!

No party food but I'll watch the game at home. With it being on so late, I can't go out late. I need to stay home so I can get up early tomorrow. I wasn't at work all last week and I know it's piling up.
