RAL colors? is 5013 'cobalt blue'?

We're ordering a Bluestar range with a colored front, which is available in all the RAL colors - tiny samples of which are on their website. We want a cobalt-blue, sort of like the kitchenaid cobalt blue mixer, or the oceanside glasstile cobalt. From other sites' names of the colors, I think I'm after 5013. But our designer is concerned that that'll read as more navy-like, and that we should get 5010 "gentian blue" to more approximate the cobalt blue we want. Clearly we should find out where to see RAL color samples in person, but pending that, I wondered if anyone here might have some experience with the RAL colors, and might know which one corresponds to the cobalt blue that I'm after?

RAL 5013 is named cobalt blue.

There are frequent demonstrations at Reno's appliance in NJ. I just attended one, but the BS promotion was free cooking classes at the Culinary Institute. Its pretty close to NYC. The demonstration was disappointing. The burners were turned on because I asked - but no cooking. It was more Q &A session - and I was the only one there. So, if you decide to go, call first. The rep told me they used to charge $250.00 for a back guard and now its free so they are charging for color instead. I don't know if this is accurate - I am just repeating what I was told.

Well, after months or reading about and comparing gas ranges, I finally decided on a Capital Culinarian. I spent a lot of time learning about different brands and understanding that open burners really are the right answer for good cooking. Initially I had decided on a Blue Star, but by fluke ran across the many informational videos from Eurostove on the Culinarian. Suddenly it was my front runner. Finally, we went and visited Trevor and coworkers at Eurostove. We spent the morning cooking the best stir fry and best steak I have ever made. These stoves really do make you a better cook, no question. The deal was sealed and I bought a Culinarian that day. Trevor had it shipped to me and I just now brought it into the house -a thing of beauty. The fit and finish are much better than Wolf or Bluestar. My only problem is the kitchen renovation won't be complete for a few more months, so I can't play with the stove. For now it has to sit in my dining room waiting while I continue to use my 30 year old electric stove! Thanks to Trevor and his crew for a fantastic purchasing experience. They so knowledgeable and helpful. It is great to have such great customer service! I'm not connected with Eurostoves or Capital in any way, just a very happy customer.

I just saw a house with VG fir veneer kitchen with all VG fir trim in the entire house. It was completely my sensibility and very Pacific NW. Our entire house is also trimmed with VG fir, much like the pictures. Our exterior also has similar color scheme, dark slate grey and honey colored wood. My house is so different from anything that most people have shown on this web site that I put up this web site as a reference. Our house is more of a custom architected home that really can only be described as "Pacific NW Contemporary". I don't think you see this type of houses in other parts of the country very much. I like the architectural uniformity of using the same wood throughout the house and making sure the colors from the outside and inside flow together. I am a little hesitant because I am also introducing a very strong color with my range, which is not something that modern architecture does very much.... I live in Seattle and we think of Douglas fir as our native tree specie. My husband has wanted VG fir cabinets from the beginning. I think VG Fir it is at this point! I just need to make sure it works with the blue. I am also not that keen on introducing anymore wood species to the public part of the house. I have VG fir trim, oak floors and birch slab doors. I think I have enough.... My bedroom furniture and matching bathroom vanity is cherry. But That is in a very private part of the house. Here is a link that might be useful: VG fir kitchen

I LOVE orchilvr's kitchen - it's a great inspiration pic for you. The black would look super. We struggled with our TurboChef door colour - debated between red and a shade of green. In the end we did a custom red that's deeper and richer than the standard red they offer. I think it works well with the sage green cabs, light golden colour tile floors and soapstone (but then again I am *very* partial to red!) Here's a pic I came across of a green range and hood - food for thought... Have you looked at the RAL chart on the BS site...so many to choose from! (I know I know - that is part of the problem, right?) The best advise you've received is that it should be a colour you love, becasue it's an expensive investment. Good luck! Eliz

You have to see a RAL chart in person to know for sure. I'd be taking it to visit the rest of the samples and look at them in the approximate lighting the new kitchen will have(same flourescent colors/halogen/etc). You might find

Gentian is a little bit more vivid than cobalt to me.

Pantone is another color system that you might find in charts in an art or hobby store. RAL 5013 is Pantone 654C. 5010 is Pantone 5405C.

Thanks - that conversion to pantone is really useful - I think my local hardware store will have a pantone chart (whereas they don't have an RAL chart).

I have the RAL color chart (I had much difficulty finding the right RAL red), and I feel 5013 looks like navy. The 5010 seems to match the Kitchenaid mixer. Good luck.

thanks! that's just what I wanted to know! (Btw, for others who may use the pantone conversions, it turns out that it's not a 1-1 mapping - multiple RALs sometimes map to the same pantone, and that happens with both 5010 and 5013 (they both have other RALs that map to their same pantone).

Anyway, I'll focus on 5010. Thanks again.

I just got a RAL color chart (about 150 colors) in the mail from Tiger Dryac - I am trying to get vent a hood tp paint an excaliber to match my 1953 yellow (lemonade) chambers stove - but the colors were so bright & gaudy - and not what I would expect. I find this surprising since both Northstar and Viking have a similar yellow. Can you get a lighter shade of a particular RAL? How can I match this stove?

I have an RAL color chart from IFS Coatings. I almost got my Bluestar in cobalt, until I chickened out and went with creamy white instead (RAL 9010). I had no idea you could map RAL to Pantone... anyway, you really want to check the colors from your own chart, and in lighting conditions similar to your kitchen. Ordering from an on-line color chart is a good way to get a surprise.

I have a cobalt Kitchenaid immersion blender. It's a very dark blue and at least at night, RAL5013 and 5022 look pretty close.

jane-o, we wanted a cobalt BlueStar too, and ordered one in 5005 (Signal Blue). It's a LITTLE royal blue-ish, but absolutely enough cobalt to suit us.

I hope you have some luck getting a RAL color chart; it was quite a bear for us to get our hands on one!
