There's a Horrocks in Grand Rapids too, somewhere over by Kentwood. I can't quite remember which road. It's over by where my good friend lives and I go there a lot of times when I visit her.

I've been chowing down on MI cherries since my cousin gave me 2 quarts to take home. I really like those red ones, can't remember what their called, something royal.

But the gooseberries are really the most photogenic. Wow! I hardly ever see them around the markets, just when they are in season locally. My old boss grows them in his garden. It's been a long time since I tasted a gooseberry! Great find.

Great haul! But poor Makayla, what a bummer having a broken arm. Please give her a hug from me.

Oh! Too bad about Makayla's arm. However, she doesn't look like it's bothering her too much. It will give her the opportunity to be the center of attention for awhile...although as pretty as she is I'm sure that's the norm.

Great looking haul there, Annie! I just bought some lemon grass today, think I'll cut it up and freeze it until I figure out what to do with it.

dedtired, I don't sleep much, LOL. Elery and I are married but we don't live together. I figure we can stay married forever that way, LOL.

Actually, he has over 30 years with his employer and would take a big hit on his retirement if he retires before he's 59 1/2. I can't retire from the county until I'm 55, even though I have 31 years in here, so for 3 years or so we'll be keeping two places and going back and forth on weekends. Maintaining two homes is kind of a pain, both financially and physically, but I don't see an option.

Jessica, the cherry crop in my part of Michigan was a total loss, as was most of it north of me. So was the plum crop, the apricots and most of the pears, as well as the Delicious apples. Later apples seem to have escaped that late frost. Southern Michigan escaped some of the freezing, so you can get Michigan cherries but not in my part of the state. In fact, Elery just brought 20 pounds of Bings with him this weekend and we made sweet cherry butter but he paid $2 a pound, twice what I usually pay. Good thing the blueberries are ripe and ready to pick!

L, I made gooseberry jam for Dad, it's not my favorite by a long shot, but he likes it. I have two bushes of my own but they're only a couple of years old and just started to bear. Horrock's in Grand Rapids? I'm going to have to look for that, they have great bulk biscotti (yeah, I bought some, both cherry and orange pecan, LOL).

Kathy, the lime chipotle marinade is good and contains an inordinate amount of lime juice. KatieC tested it and found it safe to can, I do half pints for 15 minutes in a hot water bath. Elery likes it as a marinade for lamb, and I can even eat lamb if it tastes more like lime and chipotle and less like....well.....lamb.

Lime-Chipotle Sauce - Sunset Magazine

Food processor:

1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons minced canned chipotle chilies in adobo sauce (WAAAY too much for me, the heat wus)
3 tablespoons brown mustard
1/2 cup lime juice
1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Season with salt and pepper

Serve sauce as a marinade grilled meats, poultry, and fish if your guests don't get to it first with tortilla chips. Makes 1 1/2 cups.

The Monkey Princess? I think it was a much bigger trauma for her mother and the rest of us than it was for her, LOL. She says it's "itchy" but it feels a lot better when I take her to Dairy Queen for ice cream. (grin) There are three baby river otters that play in the creek in the park behind Dairy Queen and they help make her feel better too.

She is very disappointed that she can't get into the pool, the cast is not waterproof. She did mention that she could just sit on the side and MAYBE she'd fall in. I thought that was a bad idea. The doc says it can probably come off in a month.

Still, she gets lots of attention and will only let people write on her cast if they write what she tells them to write, LOL. Ashley has volunteered to paint flowers and fairies on it, she has the painting supplies that Nancy gave her. I wonder if watercolor would stay on a cast and how long it would take to dry, or if I should just get some markers.....

Two things you can do for her. Having the "itchy's" is no fun but a cast cooler will quickly take care of that. Just google cast cooler.

You can also buy her a watertight cast cover so she can go swimming. Both of these things really do work. My DH got his cast cover from the ER doc but I can't seem to find it online, but the one from drypro is the kind you want. The linked site has instructions for sizing and even has a video showing how simple it is to use and remove. Whatever kind you get make sure it states that it is for swimming in addition to bathing. It's been brutally hot this summer, I hate to see her have to suffer with the heat, too.

I hope she's better soon.

One more cast hint: 91% isopropryl alcohol and a baby brush or toothbrush (not 70%) to clean around her hand. It will help keep it from smelling too bad also. The alcohol evaporates fast.

(DS #2 went through a few years of annually breaking a bone)
