It's no cake..but it's a Birthday...:o)

Here's my birthday treat.

Dinner was sooo good..if I do say myself...LOL I'm a good cook! Hubby grills steaks good too..

Didn't snap a picture..I was starving..

But here's dessert..

Organic Nectarines, fresh whipped local whip cream, few strawberries from my garden and some warmed up Ann T Caramel Sauce.

That looks so yummy! The strawberries look better than any I have seen in a few seasons. Do you many more coming?

Denise, I planted only ever bearings..so the "picking" is slim every few days off 12 plants..but they are delish...I planted 3 varieties and I thought I loved Shuksan, but those ones are called Joes Best or something like that..I think I like the Joe's better.

WE are going through mice issues as well. NEVER had to deal with it here....but, stupid me---when I decided to start just throwing my produce scraps directly into the garden--well that just exascerbates the problem. Was out watering the planters around my (empty) pond and two pop out from under the rocks that edge the planter border---and scurry up the side and back of the pond. Also saw one scurry from my patio over to the pond and then last night watered my backyard flowerbed and one jumped out to scurry over to the patio! SOO, hubby got some mouse traps and loaded them with pnut butter. He checked them this morning. One the pnut butter was licked clean but not tripped! and another is missing! I don't think my dog got to it because we locked her in her yard last night....sooo, just waiting and hoping. I'm not a cat person but we MAY have to get a cat...and OUTDOOR cat! ugh....pray for us...and as far as I can tell, none in the house..... Love, Jules

Thanks for all the nice birthday wishes everyone. Couldn't do family birthday as they all had the flu, so we had to postpone. Little DGD texted me that she was sorry she ruined my birthday. I told her not to worry, we could just celebrate all month! Two friends took me out to dinner last night and another to a movie and lunch today. Another one was over with a couple of bunnies and a wonderful ceramic acorn! Lots of lovely cards and phone calls too, so it was very nice. Karen, you are always so sweet to remember and I love the pretty card, got one from Jaybird too. Take care all of you--and don't catch that flu bug.

Cornbread cake Never made it but it looks so dang delicious! 2 cups flour 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal 4 eggs 1 1/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed 1 cup oil 1 teaspoon vanilla One 15-ounce can whole kernel corn, undrained 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 3/4 teaspoon baking powder Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 9x13 oblong pan or two 9 inch cakes pans with vegetable cooking spray. In a large bowl whisk together the flour and cornmeal. Set aside. To a blender or food processor add the eggs, sugar, brown sugar, oil, vanilla, undrained corn, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder. Blend or process for 30 seconds or until well combined (some corn will still be visible). Pour into the flour mixture and whisk just until flour disappears. Pour into prepared pans. Bake for 45-50 minutes for the long pan, or 35-40 minutes for cake pans - or until a toothpick or tester inserted in the middle comes out with large moist crumbs. Serve warm.

Rock salt is toxic....so it table salt. It will kill yor grass and render the soil sterile of you use too much....and it will kill you if you ingest too much. And water will do the same thing. Salt is NaCl...period. Rock salt has some impurities, sea salt some minerals, table salt some anti caking ingredients....but it's all primarily salt. Linda C

I'm with Ann, I would much rather have berries and whipped cream than cake! When asked what I wanted for my birthday, the closest I could get to a cake was angel food with berries and whipped cream (had to have some concession to "birthdayness"). Happy birthday again!

Homemade caramel is so worth the effort. I wouldn't want a birthday cake myself these days, since we wouldn't be able to eat all of it, and so your dessert looks like a great choice.

I only make caramel at Christmas - maybe I should consider it for other occasions - thanks for the inspiration!

Lars, I make a half batch of Ann's caramel and keep it in the fridge in a canning jar..lasts a long time..it will "crystalize" a bit though reheated in the micro in the jar, but I don't mind..if I want it smooth again when heating up, I just pour it in a pan and simmer with a bit more cream.

I'm still eating the whipped cream..LOL...
I've got Alton's Vanilla icecream in the KA right now..Doesn't seem to make a very big batch..I guess I won't have to share.....ROFLMAO
