Anyone use dishwasher detergent as a laundry booster?
Comments (24)I agree that the dishwasher detergent is probably too harsh for clothes. I also want to point out that dishwashing liquid like Dawn causes too much sudsing, and can cavitate the pump on a regular washer, and should never ever be used in a HE washer. I use the soak cycle and either Clorox 2 or Oxiclean. For the worst I have a small stash of STPP, the phosphate compound removed from detergents to prevent algae overgrowth in waterways. I use it extremely sparingly, a teaspoon at a time as a laundry booster, just a couple times a year, if that often. I am still using the rinse only cycle with no spin before I wash my clothes. It seems to make a bigger difference than anything else. The clothes are submerged in water, not half-submerged. No way to alter the water level setting, as it does it by weight....See MoreHas anyone used these detergents?
Comments (7)I've heard of both brands from people on this forum but I have no experience with them personally. Don't worry about finding the "perfect" detergent, since there is none. What works best for one does not work well for another. Contrary to what a certain faction wants to preach, you CAN try and use different detergents and not hurt your machine. What you need to be careful about is the sudsing. If it makes too much suds, you can have issues but let's be realistic. Virtually EVERY front load owner, and for that matter also virtually every top load owner has had a load or two with too much detergent and oversudsed. It comes from putting in too much detergent. You may find like many do that certain detergents work better on certain things so you may have more than one detergent to use at wash time. Especially if you're new to a front loader, start with way, way less than even recommended. You can always move up as you need to but if you put too much in then you can have issues. The other issue you might have is some detergent buildup. Not everyone will have this but some will. How does it happen? Not as some want to claim that it's "poor rinsing" of a top loader, but simply because of pilot error. People are putting TOO MUCH detergent in there! It's easy to understand why this happens when you think about it. Most top loaders have no glass lid to look in so people start the machine and walk away. I've had a few times I lifted the lid and holy cow, look at the suds! If you don't pay attention, you dry the clothes and go on. Most front loaders have the glass and you tend to see it more and of course FLs are more sensitive and might even shut down if there's too many suds. So anyway, with heavy things it could be a good idea to even run a load without detergent and see how it goes. That should give an idea if you were overdosing before. There's a learning curve with any new machine and especially if you're changing technologies like going from top to front load. They're different and need to be operated differently. Enjoy your new machine and let us know how it's working with the different detergents you try....See MoreAnyone here use dishwasher detergent as a laundry booster?
Comments (4)I've never had any adverse results besides the suds. Lift the top of the washer and there's 4"+ of foam. That's why it takes so many rinses. I've been usings quite a bit too. As far as detergents with enzymes, virtually all P&G products have enzymes as does Wisk. Otherwise I don't know of any American made ones with enzymes, except that the Walmart Great Value brand does. And it does a pretty good job. But I have a pail of Sun to use up so I add a the DW detergent to boost it when needed. Thought I'd check. I know there's been a big turnover of people. Thought maybe someone still used it. If anyone comes around who has experience or comments, I'd appreciate it! Happy laundering all!...See MoreAnyone ever use Bubble Bandit Laundry Detergent
Comments (15)I've been using Bubble Bandit dishwasher detergent for several years now and here is my experience. I have an older dishwasher like MammaP. Mine is a 15 year old GE EI (Energy Inefficient) dishwasher. It is loud, uses a boatload of water, and cleans like a SOB. We have moderately hard water here so I always use a rinse agent like Jet Dry. I never put any of my metal pots and pans in the dishwasher. Those get handwashed. But everything else goes in-- dishes, glasses, cups, bowls, silverware, cooking utensils, mixing bowls, etc. I use the normal cycle with the sani option that heats the water. Everything comes out clean and shiny. All the dishes are shiny and the glasses are crystal clear with no cloudy residue. If I have a particularly dirty load with dried, baked on or burned residue that needs enzymes, I will put the Bubble Bandit in the prewash cup and a Cascade complete tab in the main wash cup for the enzymes. This is just my experience and I have been happy with the results....See Moreczechchick2
