Ours is closed, otherwise Sara (our pit bull) will roam around the house. No real biggie, except she does that entire body shake when she gets up from her bed...which wakes me up. Otherwise, she stays put.

Well, I kept mine open all the time so that Dudley could come and go at will, but now with this kitten with ADS, I have to keep it shut.....she wants to walk on my face and kiss me all the time. Not conducive to a good night's rest!

At the old house, we've always kept the bedroom door open. We do have a cat, but even when we haven't had one, we've always slept with the door open.

However, at the new house, we always close the bedroom door. I never really gave too much thought to that difference--until you asked the question. But we haven't yet taken the cat to the new house--she's still at the old one (so we don't have to worry about her nighttime rambles). AND with having 2 homes, we've been keeping the heat way down at both, and I generally turn a little space heater on in the bedroom for a half hour or so before I go to bed, and want to keep the heat in that room.

I do know, it's supposed to be safer to have the door closed--supposed to give you an extra 30 minutes in case of a fire, not sure the flimsy hollow doors at the new place would be that substantial, though.

OPEN, I don't like to feel closed in., plus the dogs roam in and out.

I have it closed now, but when my kitty, Baby was alive I had to keep it open so she could come in and out of my bedroom. I even had to make a little pillow to put in the doorway so when I had my window open, a breeze wouldn't blow the door closed. I wish things were such, I still had to keep it open. Alas, Dottie

Open. I'm not claustrophobic at all, but the idea of being behind a shut door in a house at night kind of freaks me out. I WANT to hear every little noise that happens during the night, in case there's a fire or an intruder or some problem with the beasts. I want to hear the first peep out of that alarm!

And this is odd- our bedroom door is a pocket door and we used to pull it shut occasionally to close up a pet like during house-breaking periods, for confinement. This door is RARELY used. It broke! Of all our doors, it's used the least and broke first. And pocket doors aren't easy to get parts for or fix, so now it's hard to slide and worries me that it'll break again. Stupid door! lol

Open usually. Sometimes around 4:00, if I get up to potty, I'll close it because Cocoa the kitty will come in and hop on the bed, and wake me up.

Open just a tad. Spencer likes to roam around and make sure everyone is ok. Also, if someone gets up earlier than me in the morning, he can go outside and I can SLEEP!

Both. My bedroom has two doors and I keep one closed and the one to the bathroom open. One kitty sleeps with me and the younger kitty is kept out so she won't wake me up. Peggy Sue, the youngest, finds things to get into at night.

Funny you should ask ;o) Our bedroom is the entire second floor (it houses our bedroom and bath), so we don't have a door. Once you climb the stairs, you're in the bedroom. Kinda odd, but it works for us.

Closed, all bedroom doors are closed at night. Growing up, though..my bedroom door was open.(so maybe it's my husbands fault?)
When it's really cold the oldest sons is left cracked open because the only heat source in the house is the gas fireplace and he's the only "Lone" room habitant.

Closed, because Main Man stays up late. Very irritating. Dogs go to my Bed way before I do. LOL! I shut the door when I go to bed.

Funny you should ask this today. When the two of us go to bed at the same time, which is 5 days a week, the door is left open. On Monday and Wednesday nights, DH goes to bed 2 hours earlier than our normal midnight time of retiring because he gets up at 5am the next morning to go to his cardiac rehab class. He closes the bedroom door on those nights. I stay up till midnight. Last night when I was ready to go to bed, I found the bedroom door to be locked. DH had absently mindedly (he says) locked the door. He wears ear plugs to bed, and my knocking did not disturb him in any way, so I slept on the couch. No dinner for him tonight!

We sleep with the doors closed...with the three "boys", we're out-numbered, and they seem to like to play at night.

Ours are open! With 3 cats, they need to be able to decide who and how long they are going to sleep with either of us! I usually end up with all 3 of them, but Jiggs occasionally goes to bed with Dean...then when Dean starts snoring, she comes to my room.

Our door is closed and locked (and it's just the two of us). DH likes it locked because we live in a very secluded area and we have 8 entry doors. His theory is, if a burglar broke in, the seconds it would take to open the bedroom door would be enough to arrange for a "welcome party" (with DH imitating "Dirty Harry"). Fortunately, the bedroom is 600 square feet, so claustrophobia is not an issue.

I leave it open so the cat can go in and out. If I close it, he bangs on it until I open it for him. Brat!

I like it closed...DH likes it open.....so usually who ever hits the bed last is how it is for the night...Stacy

Shut - with the ceiling fan and one other fan on to 'drown out' any noises that Emi and the puppies make while we (mostly I since Gary gets up at 4:30 am) are/am trying to sleep.

It's safer to keep it closed, but ours is open and our boys are closed. Their room is on the opisite side of the house and I need/want to be able to hear them. That and my cat can not stand closed doors.

Shut for privacy sake. We have two adult kids living with us and also we're the opposite of many others here, we want to KEEP the cat out (don't like sleeping with animals).

It's usually shut because I DON'T want any dogs coming in my bedroom...but if I hear noises I have to open it a little so I can hear where they come from or what they are...

I'm a light sleeper.

Always shut. DH gets up (separate room) around 4:30 AM to go to the gym. No matter how much he tries... he would wake me up if it was open. :)

His is closed as well, since he goes to bed earlier than me, and I don't want to keep him from falling asleep.

Right now there is no door on it...but there will eventually be a pair of skinny french doors that have panes at the top and solid at the bottom, and as long as I am here alone or just with my husband, they will be open.

Open, and I have a pretty antique cast iron doorstop there. The doorstop isn't really needed, but it looks so good there!

Lottiecat has free reign to come and go because her litter box is in there and also she sleeps with me.

More like, though, that I sleep with her.

Anyway, I'm another who wouldn't want to sleep with the door closed.

Well..we were the victims of a home invasion in CA years ago. I've never felt I could relax enough to sleep with out locking my bedroom door at night, as well as double checking the exterior doors since.
We have a BIG dog who has free roam of the house at night inside.
I know it doesn't make sense, we live in a very safe area now and have zero crime. Tell my night-time mind that OK? Kathy

Open when it's just us here. That way Petunia can go in and out as he wants to at night. Closed doors drive him crazy.

Shut, to keep my two cats out. They arise at four and like to eat as soon as they get up. The dog sleeps in our room on the floor or at the foot of the bed. She's allowed, she sleeps good until I get up.

Open. The cats like to come sleep with us during the night but aren't usually in place immediately when we go to bed. It's just us & the cats, so no privacy issues.

I have a sliding door and keep it almost closed, a bit open, wide enough for my dog to go in and out.

There are double doors going into the master bedroom. Sometimes both doors are open, sometimes only one door is open, but there is always at least one door open.

Our bedroom is in the 1970s addition to the house. It opens to the laundry room. The bedroom door (a pocket door) is in a direct line, and about 11 feet away from, the main exterior door that opens to the patio. The laundry room has a porcelain tile floor, so it's cold!

Combine the tile floor, steel door, and -zero temps, that laundry room can be cold. If it's below 20 outside we keep the bedroom door closed. It really makes the room much more cozy.

Our bedroom has a north facing window, and a large west window that opens to the sunporch. We haven't replaced the sunporch windows yet, so we covered them with plastic this fall. Man did that make the bedroom so much warmer! Last winter I was miserable; I was even wearing a cap and knit gloves to bed.

This winter, after having the brillant idea to shut the door and cover the sunporch windows, our bedroom is almost as warm as the rest of the house. Wes, I, and most-importantly, Harry, LOL, all sleep sound and cozy now! I haven't even unpacked the electric blanket this winter.

Hopefully by next winter the sunporch will have 10 new thermal pane windows, insultated exterior door and thermal pane storm door, a corn burning stove and a new facelift.

It's going to become our main dining room and living room. Wes is in charge of it's decor and style. I'm arranging the spaces.
